Caligula had two versions. The hardcore version was x and showed full on, well, you know. The edited version was R and had less bush.

I was also under the impression that pg-13 and R weren’t created until the mid 80′s. Many movies would be R or worse then. I mean…Caligula was probably R when it came out.

Also my honorable mention goes to Beetlejuice (1988! After PG-13 blah blah blah). Beetlejuice says fuck and shit, and grabs his crotch vulgarly. Rated: PG. Sure surprised me when I recently watched it for the first time in about 10 years.

Damn it, Unreality, why do I always have to be that guy? First off, Ju-On: The Grudge IS rated R. If you were talking about the remake, you didn’t make that clear and also, the remake made both my wife (who is skittish) and I laugh out loud in the theater with how unscary it was and can hardly be called original since it was a freakin’ remake. Second, the PG-13 rating wasn’t instituted until 1984, well after Jaws’ time and the ratings board let a lot more slide back then since people were all high on cocaine (probably) and less likely to spend their time writing idiotic letters about how offended they were by how scary the scary movie they brought their young children to see was. Lastly, Salem’s Lot has no nudity, onscreen violence, cursing, or anything else to justify giving it an R-rating. It’s just insanely creepy. I’ll give you Jaws since (I assume) you’re a young’n and it actually surprised me back in the day that they had given it a PG rather than a R seeing that it has onscreen blood and violence, cursing, and even a little nudity, but the rest of these don’t have much to justify a hardcore content rating without said content to back it up.
