In one of his Evening with Kevin Smith’s he talks about how crazy the director and production company wanted to make it and how they wanted him to write it. I guess they were hell bent on the idea that it absolutely must have a giant spider in it and something like Superman had to have a kid. I think he ended up rejecting the idea and refused to write it, or Cage backed out (something like that). But I do remember he outlined quite a bit about why the movie never came to pass. He even mentioned that the director went on to make Wild Wild West right after the movie was cancelled (note the giant spider).
