I read the book and thought it was great.

I was excited to see this.

I couldn’t believe how bad the green screen was in the limo. Couldn’t get through the whole movie.

Disappointed.

This was a odd movie, I don’t really know what to make of it. You could even convince me that it was a comedy at this point. I didn’t really get why they talked like they did. Is it because we get the main characters perspective and that’s how he views the world? Or are we just supposed to ignore it like when german soldiers speak english in movies?

Thanks for the response. I may have to give this one another go.

Sometimes my mindset that day won’t allow me to enjoy a certain type/style of movie. This happened the first time I saw Primer. I didn’t hate the movie but didn’t like it nearly as much as I did the second time I saw it.

I’m not a fan of Don DeLillo as a novelist, but I am a fan of his screenplay Game 6. Perhaps if he took the liberty of writing the film adaptation instead of Cronenberg, it could have been an entirely different film.

Robert Pattinson’s performance does not convince me of his acting chops at all. I watched this after seeing Bel Ami, and it only convinced me further of Pattinson’s average if not lacking acting talent. I know both characters in Bel Ami and Cosmopolis are sort of the shallow types, but jeez Pattinson is just plain shallow as an actor.

It got steadily better with the best part being at the end… but it never exactly turned into a different kind of movie. Basically the oddness and dangerous undercurrents finally crescendo into a truly dramatic confrontation. That said, I wouldn’t expect you to think that the last forty minutes change the movie, because they don’t. They just fulfill it.

Personally, I didn’t feel like I was cutting the movie much slack because of my fan status. As I indicated, the first half hour had me wondering how I was going to make it through at all. The material just started to click with me as it went along.

It’s certainly not an easy watch or immediate recommendation, but I DO feel it deserves more serious attention than it’s gotten.

I couldn’t disagree more.

I really feel this movie is having the “Tarantino” affect on Cronenberg fans. They just love it because it’s Cronenberg.

Now, I did not read the book and that may be the key to enjoying this movie. I found the movie incredibly slow and boring. I couldn’t stand the way Pattinson delivered his lines. And truth be told, I couldn’t even make it through the whole movie.

If you came back and say “You must see this entire movie to appreciate it and you disliked it solely because you shut it off 2/3 of the way through” then I may give it another shot.

I miss the time when Cronenberg was able to make deep AND entertaining movies.
