"One of Mathison’s best moles – a young woman serving as a concubine to a Saudi Royal Prince – dies under curious circumstances. Rather than pursue her death directly, the agent and her team ‘follow the money’ (who paid and why to have her killed). Eventually, this leads them to a new home near the airport presumably purchased to stage the assassination of the President … but this storyline disappears entirely once the involved terrorists go on the run! (The purpose of this house was to serve was never made definitively clear.)"

Umm.... actually the plot was not abandoned. It turned out Tom Walker was alive and was going to be used as the assassin. The house was picked because of the proximity to the airport. Once they found out he was alive and around, it was easily presumed the house could no longer be used by the terrorists. They continued to pursue Walker until his death.

Obviously, no show is going to please everybody. I might be able to clarify a few of your points, however.

Regarding the house near the airport, it was implied that Tom Walker was going to use it to snipe either the President or VP as they disembarked at the nearby airport, but that plan was abandoned once the couple that owned the house was compromised (although I think you could totally take issue with the fact that the husband gets gunned down in the next episode when they're on the run, and we're never really told who killed him).

Regarding Carrie seemingly falling in love with Brody too quickly, I disagree. The first half of the season consists of her watching his every movement using the cameras she installed in his house. The show makes it pretty clear that she's borderline obsessed with him and the possibility that he's a terrorist, so I don't think it's too far-fetched for her to lose control of that obsession.

And regarding Dana seemingly recognizing Carrie even though they'd never met, it's been a while since I've seen the season finale, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't recognize Carrie. It's more that she gets freaked out by Carrie's unhinged nature and the things she's saying about Brody.

@froggystyle: That's a solid point, but, having known a few manic depressives in my day who are not quick to love (in fact, they're VERY slow b/c of their condition), it just didn't seem all that legitimate. I've only dealt with a handful of bipolar folks (that's Carrie's stated diagnosis); they were completely nice people, though a bit manic (like Carrie) at times.

@mike cupcake: that's what I was thinking, too. Maybe the source material is more to my tastes.

@Frothy_Ham: Shame on you for not agreeing with every critic's assessment! My take on it isn't so much a gripe with Homeland but with critics claiming it's the best TV show ever. Seriously, right now I'm totally digging Boardwalk Empire, Strike Back, Sons of Anarchy, Toy Hunter, and New Girl (for something lighter).

I could see why you feel that way, but a lot of the abandoned plotlines you mentioned are picked back up in season 2. I also don't think it makes a lot of sense to criticize carries quick falling in love, when you have already established that she is extremely manic depressive. This would be normal for a person with such an ailment.

Well, I guess I just have horrible taste in television because even after reading this, it's still one of my favorite shows of the last few years.

Just out of curiousity, what ARE some shows that meet your high standards?
