I don’t think you’re writing for the right website Sara. TMZ and Perez Hilton are thataway [points to the door]. Presenting “rednecks in blackface” is simply contributing to the dumbing-down of America.

Any show that features a horribly obese woman poisoning her child with energy drinks so they’ll get higher ratings and a paycheck is not worth the time of anyone but the lowest common denominators of our society.

The article is not bad and you should not feel bad, but the fact that the family is borderline retarded and being paraded as a sideshow isn’t really the issue to defend. The problem is that for some ungodly reason people want to watch a borderline retarded family being paraded as a sideshow. Fahrenheit 451 was right. We are systematically being made stupider by having these surrogate families beamed to our homes and having to tolerate them since they’re funny and everybody else watches them. I don’t see the point on looking down t these people. In a matter of a couple decades, we will all BE these people at this rate.

After I watched the first episode it’s pretty obvious that they’re just a really loving family. But thank god they do subtitle it cause I have no idea what the fuck they’re saying half the time.

If anyone should be ashamed of Honey Boo Boo, it’s TLC. They took a family that for all their fault, has a lot of good qualities too, and attempted to turn it into a big, “Let’s all point and laugh at the rednecks!”

Well, I don’t think they succeeded and I couldn’t be happier. People watch because they are charmed by this odd family, who loves the hell out of each other, or they tune out. But not too many people are laughing at them.

Think about it. Yes, they should improve their diet, I’m sick of that argument, because there are damned few people in this country who shouldn’t improve their diet, and I’m sure many of the folks who are outraged at their diet are just as guilty themselves. So, let’s leave that issue out of it.

But the other stuff…the farting the crudeness… how many of us are guilty too? We just don’t have cameras filming us. Honey and her family don’t pretend for the cameras. They are who they are and who they are isn’t so bad.

Honey and her family are just fine. TLC should be horsewhipped for having the chance to show a different family in an honest light but instead attempting to turn it into a show that’s point was to make fun of a little girl and her family for the horrible crime of not being “typical.” They ought to be ashamed.

I am not in the slightest interested in these people and I don’t know why everyone else suddenly is.

Sara makes a great point that despite their idiosyncracies they are still people, and the example at the end (sneeze on camera) illustrates that they are being played for laughs by a predatory media and it’s kind of sad.

You make a good point about how these are still people and they should be respected like any other people.

But that is precisely why I don’t want to see them on television. If they are the same as everyone else (apart from cosmetic/peripheral changes) then why do I have to see them at all?

This kind of “reality” television should die, the sooner the better.
