The Power of Mods: A Look at Graphical Enhancement in Five PC Games

Published by at 12:00 pm under Images,Video Games

Want to know what games are going to look like in the coming years? You don’t have to speculate, the future is here.

For years, PC gaming has been ahead of the curve when it comes to graphics, both from an in-game perspective and with aftermarket mods. These mods push the games to their extreme, and even invent new render, texturing and lighting techniques that simply don’t exist on the market yet.

I decided to hunt down five games that have some of the best graphical mods around. Most of the pictures below will blow up, though some bigger than others.

Grand Theft Auto

Skyrim

Fallout 3

Dishonored

And the mother of them all, Crysis

Paul, you can’t post stuff like this and then not tell the uninitiated like me where to get them. :-)

This stuff is easy to find and all centralized.

*Make sure to get the nexus mod manager, and it will handle all the download installing, and updating for you.

    Good collection of Crysis mods:

    I can’t speak for dishonored.

For skyrim though, I think Paul actually made a poor choice to show off what can be done with the game, I think the ENB series (in conjunction with mother texture/graphic mods) really pulls off the best graphics. Or why he didn’t opt for videos to show off the mods. Whatever though! :)

Sins of a Solar Empire also has some good graphic enhancement mods.
Homeworld 2 Also has a pretty awesome graphic overhaul.
