It’s always a bit strange to see voice acting doing the characters they play in real life, but it goes double for Andy Serkis. The voice is eerie enough, but as he did the mo-cap also, there are those facial features and expressions that come through as well.
In the video above, Serkis does a reading of The Hobbit on stage as Gollum, which is probably the coolest thing that’s happened on a stage anywhere ever. As if we needed any more of a reason to look forward to The Hobbit, here we are.
I still think he should have gotten an Oscar nomination for Rise of the Planet of the Apes. When the finally decide to do one for mo-cap work once the Academy gets with the times, it’ll be him that wins it, mark my words.
