Drift: The Comic with a Soundtrack

Published by at 3:00 pm under Comics,Images

I get a lot (a LOT) of emails from people wanting me to feature something or another they’ve written, drawn, shot, etc. Sometimes I do, others I don’t. Today I was sent something by Justin Schmidt, Fr. Jones and Andrea Miller that caught my interest.

They have a sci-fi comic called Drift. That wouldn’t normally be enough to warrant my further examination, but they’ve done something rather cool with it. They’ve gotten a collection of independent artists to fashion a soundtrack for the book as you read it on the site. It’s a cool concept that really adds a new experience to the reading of a comic, especially since the music was specifically chosen for it. No, the notes won’t always line up exactly where they should due to the pace of how fast or slow people read, but I think it’s an interesting idea for the medium.

I doubt it’s the first time this has ever been done, but it’s the first time I’ve seen it and I thought it was cool. Check out Drift for yourself here.
