Photo of the Week: The Newspaper in Shawshank Redemption is Surprising

Published by at 9:00 am under Images,Movies

I wonder if the writers and producers were actually thinking of Marvel when designing the newspaper in this film.  For those that don’t know The Daily Bugle (at one time The DB)  is a fictional New York City newspaper that is a regular fixture in the Marvel Universe, most prominently in Spider-Man comic titles and their derivative media.  The newspaper first appeared in Fantastic Four #2 (January 1962), and its offices in The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (March 1963).

The Daily Bugle was first featured on film at the 2002 film Spider-Man (film).  I can’t find any info other that the Bugle was in fact in this movie.   But there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason.  Still cool though!

I heard on reddit that “The Daily Bugle” is a common name for a newspaper, just like “The Times” etc.

Might be a reference to Spider-man, though.
