Five TV Shows That Would Make Great Video Games

Published by at 12:00 pm under Lists,Television,Video Games

Dexter (in the style of LA Noire)

He’s looking right, he’s lying.

Picture this: Tonight’s the night, Michael C. Hall says in your ear as you prowl around Miami in your SUV. Your maps shows three possible locations where serial killers have been striking, and you can choose which to investigate and ultimately kill.

The game wouldn’t have the car chases or gunfights of LA Noire, but the mystery solving element would work well here. Dexter needs to gather clues before each kill, tying an alleged killer to their victims, and once he’s done that, he can strike. The action scenes would likely be more quick time based, a-la-Heavy Rain. Press X to stab his aorta and all that.

It would be a lot of problem solving, but a decent amount of stealth and dialogue as well as Dexter tries to keep his secret hidden from the light. The whole thing could probably take place before the events of the show, as to not upset any existing plotlines already in motion.

Breaking Bad (in the style of Grand Theft Auto)

“All you had to do was follow the damn train, bitch!”

Picture this: The cartel is closing in as they’ve begun to raid Walt’s labs all over the city. Playing as Jesse, you have to ride around and protect each location before you’re put out of business for good.

Obviously this game would have be a bit more bonkers than the show itself, but I think the source material has the potential to be. The world of Breaking Bad might be full of subtlety and powerful emotional moments, but I don’t think fans would mind too much if Jesse was driving around capping Colombians either.

I picture the game set far, far in the future where Walt is a MAJOR player in the meth game with far more than two employees. Bigger business means bigger threats, and the scope of these missions would be past any of the gunfights seen on the show. Sure, it could all be non-canon so it wouldn’t upset fans, but I think a GTA-style Breaking Bad title would be a hell of a lot of fun even if it did dip outside the usual bounds of the show.

    Saul Goodman in the style of Phoenix Wright but oh so trashy.
    I once thought a doctor who game in the style of portal with puzzles you could solve using time travel rather than portals could be awesome but then they made a doctor who game and it was terrible so now I’m not so sure.

    They actually made a 24 game and while it was far from great I actually kinda liked it. The driving sections sucked ass but I liked the plot and was kinda fun. Would be cool for them to give it another try though.

    Street Fighter version of Arrested Development. It would be called Arrested Development: Chicken Fight!

    There is a Game of Thrones game out. Word is it sucks, but I haven’t tried it. And like JB said, they made a 24 game that got decent reception.

    I hate to point out the correction, but they’re “Reavers” not “Reapers.” :O

    I would seriously kill someone for a Firefly game in the style of Mass Effect. Multiple people.

    I know this isn’t the kind of show that’s been discussed but I would punch a kitten square in the mouth if they ever made a Cowboy Bebop game…that was good. I think with the Mass Effect-esque gameplay and Borderlands art style it would be killer. A more scaled down universe (Just our Solar System), but with all the planets and moons and asteroids and space stations colonized in the Bebop universe I doubt that would cause any content/exploration problems. As for the squad options you could have the regular trio (Jet, Spike, and Faye) and maybe expand upon the story of Bebop by introducing new players that come and go or join forces with you for certain side quests or main story missions…I just geeked out. What just happened? Oh yeah, I love Cowboy Bebop.

    @Bret

    I love to point out the correction, they’re “Reapers” not “Reavers.” :O

    @Rob & Bret:

    They’re Reapers in Mass Effect, Reavers in Firefly. So you were both right, or something. YAY!!!

    Also: I would buy almost every one of these games. I shan’t say which I wouldn’t, as I know my dislike of this particular property is nowhere near universal, but I WILL say that it’s not Breaking Bad. I’d pay double price for a game like that.

    A Grand Theft Auto-style Burn Notice game could be great

    Game of Thrones actually adapts better to Crusader Kings. There’s actually a GoT mod for Crusader Kings 2 that’s probably the best GoT game ever.
