They’ve already prequelized “The Wizard of Oz”. It’s called “Wicked” by Gregory Maguire. It’s a great book. It’s a great musical. And it’ll be a movie in 2014.

In the neverending hype of that damned thing, it gets forgotten: It’s an utterly, utterly stupid book. When fame snowballs, people rarely ever look back and ask, “Is all the worship of this thing justified? Or were we perhaps snookered into going for something idiotic?”

Now it’s too famous to question. It’s “an institution.” It’s “iconic.”

Read the damned book, folks. It’s dumb. It makes no bloody sense at all.

As much as I like Depp, I have to agree with Monchofos, however, I don’t have high hopes for this. Hollywood needs to learn that CGI alone does not equate greatness and go back to using actual propmakers and classic special effects along side CGI. I will still see it since I do like Franco and of course, for Mila but I have a feeling it will be a cross between Alice in Wonderland meets Witches of Oz (if you haven’t seen it, don’t do it unless you want to be mindraped by bad cgi and worse acting.)

I am interested. I just wikied this and it seems Depp was in the run after Downey pulled and have to say I much rather see James Franco and I just may see this even at the teather which if it had been Depp I wouldnt even see it.

wizard of oz is a classic film…about as classic as it gets. they get one shot at this….

having said that, i will see this.

I don’t know… The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland were pretty wacky to begin with.. I think the CG suits them. Plus I like Sam Raimi and Robert Downey Jr., Mila Kunis and Rachel Weizs.. Excited to see this..

(Isn’t there a Wicked movie coming out too? You’ll not only get 1 Oz prequel, but 2!)
