Can I say as an 18 year old that if you search around you would be suprised there ARE same sex books out there but they are mainly in the form of manga and they even have names YAOI and YURI the later being girl on girl and I think if gays want to be treated equally they should stop demanding rights and get a life they already have the freedom to be themselves with out being put on death row like the olden days.

Yeah, because any teenage girl not wanting to do what their parents say and want to choose who they want to marry is lesbian. On that matter, let’s just call Shakespeare gay for coming up with the idea! WTF???

it would be awesome if she was, but i dont think she is. so shes into some more active things and isnt so impressed with the male suitors presented to her. doesnt mean shes gay, just eans shes unimpressed. i would however love to see a disney pixar film that would feature a gay, lesbian or bi lead role:)

I will be the first person to admit that gay/lesbian folks need some positive media. It is a shame that there aren’t more books/movies/TV shows that show same sex couples in a more positive way, and a more ordinary way. What we need are some same sex teenage romance books. Who knows, maybe they can solve crime while they’re at it and we can have a modern spin on the old Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys themed books.

That being said, there IS a time and a place for everything and this movie isn’t it. This movie isn’t about the sexuality of the character, it’s about her fighting for what’s right for her, rather than taking the easy way out and just doing as her parents want her to do. And that’s all it needs to be.

Jesh, it’s bad enough we’ve got people who swear Spongebob Squarepants is gay, can’t we have SOMETHING where it just doesn’t matter, because it isn’t important to the story to spell it out? If there is a girl struggling with her own sexuality who can relate to this character, God bless her. If there is a straight girl struggling against what she wants to do with her life and what her parents want her to do with her life and she relates to this character, God bless her too.

Well, it would be a huge milestone if she was a lesbian princess . . . but no, that’s just being sexist. Just because she doesn’t want to be married and act like “how a woman should”. The movie never indicates that she is sexually oriented that way, and in fact indicates the contrary. There is a scene where one of the fathers is discussing his son while motioning to a huge, muscular man (the joke being his scrawny son is behind him). In the scene, not only does our princess look at the man in admiration (for his assumed strength and athletic ability), but also in a general attraction. Not a big attraction, mind, just enough for the next joke to pay off.

So, no, she’s not a lesbian. A lesbian princess would be neat, I suppose, but I think your being sexist in assuming (to link, not Paul, naturally).

Oh, for Pete’s sake! Stop shoving gay issues into every nook & cranny of pop culture. Gay people deserve their rights, but they get too carried away sometimes.
