That Guy Actor of the Week: Mark Metcalf

Published by at 9:00 am under Columns

You see, this is what I love about the show Seinfeld.  Just the other day the “Maestro” episode was on.   And anyone that’s seen that episode knows that the Maestro is played by the same guy who played Doug Niedermeyer in Animal House.  But do you know his real name?  Chances are you don’t.  It’s Mark Metcalf.   He’s also the same guy who played Aguilla Beckerstead in One Crazy Summer.

Metcalf is one of those guys who’s really good at playing a serious, stern type of guy.  He’s got 67 titles to his name and is still going strong as an actor.   It’s hard to believe he’s 66 years old.   I simply cannot believe how fast time flies.

Anyway, here’s a clip of him from Animal House as I’m sure that’s what you’d have wanted….

One of the all time great comedy villains.

Also, he played the Master in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Added some bite to the typical ‘evil-I-wanna-raise-hell-and-destroy-the-world’ thing villains do.

    Great to see him featured!

agreed with the above poster, yea met him @ a comic convention last year. Was kind of weird as all the other ‘guest’ appearances by actors had like, staff, security, OTHER people running it so unless you forked over some cash you never got more than a fleeting glimpse of the actor in question.

with metcalfes booth he was sitting at it running it himself, chatted with him for a good 5 minutes. Was pretty neat.
