The Gang’s All Here

Published by under Images,Movies

Nothing outrageous here, just a publicity photo from 1994 showing the cast of Pulp Fiction chilling out in black shirts and ugly jeans.

It was a magical time, back when Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson still had some semblance of hair. Uma Thurman appears to have not aged in 20 years, while John Travolta is slowly starting to expand outward. Very cool shot though. I need to watch this again.

Bonus points:

AHHHHH GAME OF THRONES!

Published by under Video Games,Videos

Alright, so sorry about my less than professional title there, but there are few things out there that truly make me giddy in the media anymore. A new Christopher Nolan movie, the next Mass Effect and of course, Game of Thrones.

We’ve seen a few teasers for season two so far, but this minute long spot is the best one so far, and it quite literally sent chills up my spine when I watched it. I’m unbelievably excited for it to come back, and April 1st seems like a thousand years away.

Star Wars in Feudal Japan

Published by under Images,Movies

This isn’t the first time someone has imagined Star Wars as a feudal Japanese story, and it won’t be the last. The film (well, at least the first one) drew heavily on Samurai culture to craft the Jedi and Sith, so it’s really no stretch to see the genre’s bent in this way.

But this is far and away some of the coolest Star Wars crossover art I’ve ever seen, and I’ve posted a lot of this stuff over the years. It’s from artist Clinton Felker, and there are four more of his pieces focusing on other characters below.

Check them out for yourself, and I hope he continues the series with Luke, Leia, Han and so forth.

Unreal Movie Review: The Grey

Published by under Movies,Reviews

It’s been a while since I’ve felt the need to use the world “manly” to describe a movie. The last such occasion was for The Expendables, which crammed so much testosterone into every frame I walked out of the theater with a fresh coat of chest hair.

But while The Expendables was traditionally “manly” in an obvious, chest thumping, gun blasting way, The Grey is a far more understated way of demonstrating physical, and often more importantly mental, toughness.

A plane crash leaves only seven men alive in the frozen tundra of Alaska, all employees of an oil company attempting to head home. Injured and freezing, they must make their way south, battling the cold and a far more immediate foe: wolves.

Girls in Gaming: Killing the Cliché with Chelsea

Published by under Editorials,Video Games

by Remy Carreiro

The idea of a steady stream of girls and women who play video games was almost unheard of until recently, and has become far more commonplace over the last five years. But sadly, many of the clichés and stereotypes involving female gamers do not seem to grow or evolve, creating what is ultimately a hostile or overly sexualized environment. Male gamers have always wanted there to be more female gamers in the culture, yet it is those very men who may be subconsciously (or overtly) pushing the girl gamer away by acting like a sexist caricature of the alpha male.

I thought the best way to address this was to give an opportunity for a few of the genuine girl gamers I know to put their point of view into their own words. I am starting with Chelsea. I won’t tell you anything about her. I’ll let her do that.

A Gallery of Grotesque Mutated Heroes

Sometimes I find art projects that I just have no words for. This is one of those times.

It’s a gallery of mutated and grotesque heroes and pop culture icons, and I’m sure it’s making some sort of statement, but I can’t really figure out what. They’re all by Alex Pardee, and you can buy prints of them here, but I’ll be damned if I have any idea why you’d want to look at them every day. Once is more than enough for me.

There are some more superheroes below, but characters like Mega Man, Fred Flintstone and Garfield get the same treatment as well, all of which will probably haunt my dreams equally tonight.

GIF of the Week: A Jelly Donut!

Published by under Images

For those of you who have seen Full Metal Jacket then you’re probably laughing right now.  For those of you who haven’t then I might actually pity you because you have to see it right now.

Clearly the drill sargeant in this movie (Hartman played by R Lee Ermey) is one of if not the best ever.   It’s that annoying guy you see on all those commercials and he is playing a….drill sargeant.

I think it’s between him and Louis Gossett Jr. in An Officer and a Gentleman for who wins best Drill Sgt award.   In fact I’ll be writing an article on this shortly.

An Interesting Gallery of Cars with Faces

Published by under Images

I’m not going to lie.  I would 100% want to own this car.   I mean come on!  Ideally it would look better if the turtle style was one that either mocked or copied one of the Ninja Turtles.

But all in all I always find it interesting when people “mod” their cars.  Afterall, that’s what this is right?  Modding of vehicles?  Just think of it as your car being cosplayed.

With that said, here’s a cool gallery of cars with “faces”……

The Morning Link: Movies Remade as Romantic Comedies

Published by under Morning Link

“Romantic comedies are usually the easiest movies to get approved in Hollywood: They’re the most formulaic to write, and the cheapest to film since all you need are two people who can convince us that we wouldn’t mind watching them do it.”

Go here to see them all.
