A while back, Nattyb wrote a review of a movie he saw at a festival called “The Pill.” He swore up and down that it was amazing, and managed to get a screener copy sent to me in the mail straight from the director, JC Khoury. I didn’t have a chance to write a review myself, but believe me when I say that it’s my favorite comedy of the year. And yeah, I saw Bridesmaids and Horrible Bosses.
The plot is pretty simple. A guy has a one night stand with a girl, but discovers she wasn’t exactly being “safe.” The next day, he gets her to take the morning after pill, but after she storms off, he realizes she has to take the second pill 12 hours later. He has to spend the day with her and things get a little intense. There’s more to it than that, but I won’t ruin certain developments. You can get a better idea of the tone of the film from the brand new trailer above. Trust me, it’s worthwhile, and if you can manage to see it, definitely do. It’s an extremely authentic romantic comedy in a genre filled with stupidity and banality more often than not. If it’s not showing up above for some reason, you can check it out here.
If you live in NYC, you can see The Pill at the Quad theater starting December 16th. If you can’t make it there, the movie will be on VOD in February before Valentine’s Day.
