The Final Countdown: Last Minute Costumes, Awesome 3D Art and the Creepiest Places Ever

Published by Paul Tassi under Final Countdown

You think this is a real costume? NOPE! Chuck Testa.

It’s Halloween uh…today, and you might have put off making a costume until the last minute. Here are some ideas you can throw together quickly so long as you’re nerdy enough to get the references.

Also, last chance to enter the Unreality Halloween costume contest. Send entries to paul@unrealitymag.com

The True Lord of the Rings

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Movies,Videos

Holy crap, I actually caught one of these one day T-shirt deals before the day it expires! This is most definitely a first for me.

This design is available on TheYetee until tomorrow, and shows a crossover that I can’t believe anyone ever thought of before, Gollum and Sonic, who both share a profound love for shiny gold rings. Just don’t get hit by anything, or all those rings will go flying every which way, and you’ll be short quite a few preciouses.

The Walken Dead Come to Life

Published by Paul Tassi under Television,Videos

It’s far from the first time I’ve heard this pun, but it’s the first time I’ve finally seen the dream of The Walken Dead fully realized.

Some intrepid amateur filmmakers decided to shoot a zombie short where the only verbal abilities the undead still possess are a host of Christopher Walken quotes, making them yes, the Walken Dead.

It’s actually pretty hilarious, and I’d be all for AMC giving them their own brief timeslot during one of the episodes. Maybe during Talking Dead?

Also, how about that episode last night? Finally something interesting happening with a tough moral choice on the line. I predicted that’s what had happened before they revealed it, but damn, still pretty intense to see it unfold. Glad the show is starting to really force its characters to evolve and make impossible choices like that.

The Hobbitourage

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Movies

I may not subscribe to Empire, but damn do I like their photoshoots. They’ve given us this iconic post about actors reprising their best roles, and they continue to have pretty fabulous photo sessions to this day.

Here they’ve assembled the four Lord of the Rings hobbits in anticipation of the two new films, in which they do not appear. Well, Frodo appears in a flash-forward, reading Bilbo’s tale, but whatever.

Merry, Pippin, Sam and Frodo look pretty Entourage-ish here, but part of me thinks that’s because they’re all about E’s size and wearing suits, making them almost indistinguishable from the tiny manager.

Ninja Turtles and Flying Foxes for This Year’s Halloween

Well you’ve seen my attempt at Nathan Drake, and now here’s my other half to show off her Halloween costumes this year, which went over far better than mine during our nights out.

My girlfriend had two costumes this year, both from the fine folks at Yandy.com. You know, the place with the exceptionally unique Halloween costumes that we’ve featured before? But she didn’t go with anything too crazy, rather she took two of their standard costumes, a sea turtle and a fox, and gave them an Unreality twist by making them a Ninja Turtle (Raphael) and Tails (from Sonic) respectively.

They may not be as homemade as her Pikachu from last year, but I think they turned out really well. The rather hilarious gallery starts below.

Nathan Drake Goes Treasure Hunting on Halloween

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Video Games

Well folks, here it is, this year’s costume of mine that nobody recognized in real life, Nathan Drake of Uncharted. I really am just designing my costumes for the internet these days, as I know no one at the bars will actually know who I am, whether I’m Ash from Evil Dead, a Battle Royale student or a wisecracking fortune hunter. I was just impressed I got let into places dripping with this much fake weaponry.

This costume was both simple, but it added up, as $10-$20 purchases on Amazon tend to do after a while. I did my best to get holster straps that are vaguely similar to his (though I didn’t want to shell out $100 for real leather. Found a ring necklace that worked, tried to get the same watch, but had to compromise. Even got a skull belt buckle, which also had a bottle opened in it. Then of course, I needed a pistol (airsoft) and I figured I’d spring for the AK-47, as it’s what I probably use most while playing that game, even if it is a gun typically associated with Russians and Al Qaeda. Lastly, the “Desert Prince” dagger I found in the costume store is supposed to be a stand-in for the one you cart around in the second game that opens every ancient puzzle.

There’s a whole gallery of different angles of the costume, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. If it’s not cool enough for you, don’t worry, my girlfriend is getting her own post in an hour here and I’ll admit her outfits are a bit more eye-catching.

A Few Legendary Battle Beasts

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Video Games

This is a collection of a few um, elementally powered monsters that like to battle each other. I forget what they’re called, but I do know they look pretty damn cool when given the proper art treatment.

These pictures come from artist Jonas Jodicke who apparently kamikazed his account right after these went to print. You might recognize the two above, and there are about four more of these…fighting creatures which you can check out below.

Man these, skirmishing fictional animals are  really cool looking aren’t they? Someone should really make a video game based around them.

GIF of the Week: The Worst NES Memory Ever

Published by Nattyb under Images

This is a debate that will probably go on for a while but after seeing this GIF I can’t decide what was more annoying:  Having to blow on the cartridge because you knew the game was screwed up or having to see this damned blinking light on the NES.

I know they go hand in hand but I think if I had to choose I would say the blinking light is worse.  If I could compare this light to anything it’s that really scary music they play in Sonic the Hedgehog when Sonic is about to run out of air when he’s drowning.

In any event, I thought this would be fun to share.

10 of the Most Badass Snow White Drawings

Published by Nattyb under Images

I’ve seen galleries of sexy Snow Whites before.  I’ve seen galleries of the seven dwarfs doing things that I probably couldn’t mention on here.   But if there’s one thing I enjoy about classic Disney cartoons, it’s when artists turn these characters into modern day badasses.  You know, the types of characters that should be in movies or comic books.

After doing a search on Deviant Art I was able to come across 10 drawings that I thought were pretty awesome.   I guess if there’s one remake that could actually be pretty sweet, it might be snow white…at least if done with any of these.

Check out the art below…

The Morning Link: Mass Effect Multiplayer

Published by Paul Tassi under Morning Link

I keep forgetting that Mass Effect 3 is trying to get into the multiplayer game. I have my doubts about how fun that will be (if fun at all), but browsing through all the features from the mode is sort of interesting.

Go here to see them.
