Some of us might have grown up as hardcore gamers, but having a family and kids slowly begins to change all that. They say “sure daddy, you can still play video games,” but the types of titles they’re talking about can barely even be considered games in the same league as Mario, Zelda, Halo or Call of Duty.

Alienware (they make them fancy gaming computers) has a new web series out chronicling the plight of the hardcore gamer trapped in a world of casual garbage. It’s exaggerated sure, but with the market the way it is these days, there are some fair points about where the industry has gone in the past few years since the Wii mucked everything up.

Amusing (in spite of the wtf beaver costume), but if you don’t like ‘em, don’t play ‘em. I’ve never even touched an angry bird. Birds are for shooting. There’s no crying in Halo, homes. Maybe hardcore gamers go casual because they can’t hack it now that everyone else is harder core than they are. I know MVC3 players kicked my ass online like I’d never had my ass kicked before, but that doesn’t mean I’m buying a Wii, nor will I whine about my glory days in DOA or SFII. Just play what you like to play and stop whining, for god’s sake. There is no gun to your head.

as a game developer whose constantly bombarded by marketing analysts saying casual gaming is the way to go, i weep for the future of gaming.
