Five Exceptionally Good Video Game Trailers

The rise of video games in the last decade isn’t really something we need to talk about. I think it’s pretty established. I’d say most of us are aware of how much this medium has affected the public. Hell, check out Comic-Con this year. It was bigger than ever. More celebrities. More people. More of a “boom” than ever.
The gaming world is here to stay. Speaking of which, the evolution of the gaming trailer has been just as amazing. Most of these are better than movie trailers now.
Here are five that I found to be pretty awesome…..
Thanks to Mandylynn for her input
Final Fantasy VIII – Playstation
Love the beginning with the ocean and then right on to the battling. This intro kind of plays like a movie epic or something. I feel like this is how some ancient Roman movie like Spartacus’s intro would have been had the technology been around at the time. Pretty awesome.
Resident Evil I – Gamecube
Granted the graphics aren’t what games are today but who cares? This is a full out movie trailer for video games. And Resident Evil certainly had a large hand in shaping the way gaming trailers are now portrayed.
Fable II – XBox 360
Wow, talk about the graphics. I remember seeing this commercial on TV. This almost reminds me of Willow or even Harry Potter. Hell even Game of Thrones comes to mind. I’m still trying to wrap my head around how awesome the graphics are.
Assassins Creed II – XBox 360
Many people out there considered this to be the game of the year. The trailer certainly backs it up. What’s so effective here is that you don’t hear one word of dialogue. I absolutely love that.
Left 4 Dead – XBox 360
I mean this is officially a movie intro is it not? I’d really like to know what the budget was to make this trailer. My only problem with a trailer this good is that it makes it so hard for the game to live up to the hype.
More Unreal Posts

Usally I don’t like the posts that only revolve around “Hey you forgot X!”
But I gotta say … HEY! What about the awesome first cinematic trailer for The Old Republic?
The FF VII is wrong. It’s actually FF VIII. Just sayin’
That’s Final Fantasy VIII, not VII.
Sorry to be the one to nitpick, but that’s actually Final Fantasy VIII not Final Fantasy VII.
I will not mention Dead Island trailer since it’s really well known and epic.
But for me, best video game intro goes to Onimusha 3.

Clocking around 7 minutes, the trailer itself is pure fantastic experience with great action scenes, fantastic design and a low of WHOAA moments.
It’s best action intro ever.
I love the first Gears of War 3 trailer. It was so artistically done and gave you a sense of the gravity of the game.
Final Fantasy X and Metal Gear Solid 2 stand out in my mind.
I can’t help but think that the “Fable 3″ Trailer is hilarious, abet unintentionally.
Its like they tried to tell us…”Its going to be shit. Beautifully rendered shit…but still shit none the less”.
There is absolutely no better trailer than Mass Effect 2.
Awe. Inspiring. Chilling. The Music. The progression beat…

All good choices, my only beef with your list is this; calling Left 4 Dead or Assassin’s Creed Xbox games misleading. If you were talking about your favorite movies you wouldn’t say “Spiderman 3 – for Sony DVD players…”
Multi platform games should be labeled as such… unless of course you’re sponsored by Microsoft, in which case, carry on.
No mention of Deus Ex: Human Revolution?

One of the most epic trailers EVER?

What about Batman Arkyum Asylum??
I agree with marko, L4D on a console ? you serious ? much respect lost…
I saw the dc universe online trailer and had to have that game, see for yourself.

Technically, the entry for FFVIII’s was its intro, as well.
@Yautja
i had a trailer from ff8 on a ff7 platinum edition.
it was this one, trailer and intro where almost the same.
Good choices, however I feel that the cinematic trailer for Assassin’s Creed Revelations is far beyond that of most other trailers out there. It was the first trailer I’ve seen in quite some time that really left me speechless.
