The Proper Response to the Diablo 3 Auction House
I’ve been sent this video about five times since yesterday, so I thought it was worth taking a look at. What I found is what looked like the internet’s biggest nerd going on an artery bursting rant about Diablo 3′s auction house, and how it’s going to absolutely ruin the game.
This guy is a caricature to end all caricatures, and he’s such a stereotype that my first thought was, “there’s no way this can be real.”
But is it? I’ll have to the answer for you after the jump:
NOPE. “Francis” is actually a character created by YouTuber Boogie, who yes, is a bit on the large side, but in no way the uber nerd he pretends to be in the video.

Troll or no troll, He makes pretty valid points. The auction house idea is completely ridiculous, and takes a lot of the merit of having to grind for good items out. I also think removing skill trees is kind of lame. The game’s not even out yet, and they’re already fucking it up. What they’re doing to pvp in this game is complete bullshit. So here’s what I get out of that.
JayMoronWilson hates PvP and loves PvE. Little does he know D2 was a PvP based game. You grinded to level 99 not to go kill Baal or Meph again, but so you could KILL PEOPLE BETTER BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT YOU DID AFTER YOU BEAT THE GAME. You either traded stuff or PvPed. There was NOTHING else to do. Although trading and PvP were awesome enough that they kept everyone busy and no one cared about the PvE.
So Jay you want Diablo to be a PvE focused game. That’s cool! Good! PvE is fun! I am glad you guys are making a great PvE experience for the game. Maybe it won’t suck shit like SC2′s campaign and I will have faith in you guys again. But that’s besides the point. D3 = PvE game and that has been stated since the beginning.
(BUT IF YOU KNEW IT WAS PVE BASED WHY YOU MAD?)
Well I’ll tell you why.
Diablo 2 = PvP and Trading. They are CHOOSING to take one of the biggest factors that MILLIONS of people love out of the game and not support it yet he wants to support the smallest community of hardcore PvPers because all communties should be supported yet you CHOOSE to not support the PvP community? The fuck?

Yes that is cool and it’s a great idea. Then he also says he doesn’t want that hardcore arena style feel of play in the game? Why can’t both be in it to SUPPORT OTHER COMMUNITIES ON THE GAME LIKE THE HARDCORE PVPERS! You don’t want a ranking system for people who want to see how high they can climb? You don’t want to support any sort of harcore PvPers which there will be A LOT of in your game? What the fuck are you thinking Jay.

Alright, fine. You got me. That is a completely valid point. If balancing around PvP effects PvE that badly and they want a PvE focused game then you know what. That’s okay because it would turn the game away from Blizzards original goal.. Holy fuck. Wait a second. (Goes back and watch’s 11:00 to end of video)

My mind is blown after watching that video. They have the ability to make PvP damage, CD, fuck, EVERYTHING different from PvE so that they could balance for PvE and balance for PvP seperatly and happily but the guy just chooses to ignore one of the biggest communities. Wait. THE BIGGEST COMMUNITY on Diablo but he wants to support Hardcore Dueling……….. This has got to be the biggest face palm in gaming history. Way to know nothing about what your community wants and go PvE style like WoW so you can use your auction house money to feed your nice and fat pockets. Yes I understand PvE pays more but in Diablo PvP is what Diablo is. Go talk to someone who played Diablo and ask them what they enjoyed about it. 9/10 people will say two things. TRADING! DUELING/PVP! Good thing D3 won’t be supporting PvP though.
So Diablo.. I love you more then you know, and some clown who doesn’t like PvP and is some PvE woW moron wants to change you into something your not. I am aware it’s not your fault Diablo. I know you didn’t want to change. I know if you could, you would love to go back to the way things were. This of all things makes me the saddest Diablo and I hope someone takes Jay’s place and turns you into what you were born to be. A PvP game with a great PvE storyline followed up with some great new items to trade with.

I think most people disliking the whole idea of Diablo 3 having an auction house for real money are usually forgetting it is a choice and for normal mode only. I see the point of not being entitled to the gear you hold, but to me that’s a weak excuse. Games a meant to be played for fun, not to extent your epeen and flash of your gear nonstop.
Truth is this auction house is going to push in a whole new world into an already huge universe. It’s going to be extremely awesome to see what the future holds.
