Mario Discovers Portals

Published by Paul Tassi under Video Games,Videos

I thought this was going to be another CollegeHumor video inserting a Portal gun into another classic video game, but not so!

This is an actual functioning version of Super Mario Bros. (well, on the PC obviously) where someone has modded it so that Mario has an actual Portal gun to play around with. As you might imagine, the possibilities are endless, and it helps him out quite a great deal when it comes to trick jumps and Goombas alike.

The creator has two more “test” videos of the gun in action, and I’ve posted those after the jump if you’re curious.

Hey Ash, Whatcha Cosplayin’?

If you aren’t familiar with Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin’, you should be, as this is only like the fifteenth time we’ve featured her on the site. She’s a hilarious girl with a web show on Destructoid where she plays/acts out different games with her brother.

Well, that’s not all she’s into, as evidenced by the picture above, she’s also a pretty big Firefly fan. She’s dressed up as River, and her actual brother is dressed up as Simon, so that fits pretty well.

Don’t worry Ash, I won’t make fun of your costumes like I did all those other Firefly fans. Yours are actually pretty good I have to say.

Unreality’s Costume Contest Winners (and Runners Up)

Published by Paul Tassi under Oddly Enough

Alright, so it’s been about two weeks since I announced our latest contest via JustCostumes.com. I asked you to send me the best costume pictures you could find, be they your own or those you scavenged from the internet. The only rules were they had to be good, and they had to be ones I hadn’t featured on the site. You need an eagle to know everything we’ve ever posted here, so if you don’t see your super sweet submission in here, know that it’s because we have in fact had it on here somewhere before.

As for the winners? There could only be two, but I wish I could pick five or six. I’m crowning the above submission winner #1 for being awesome and more surprisingly, being one I haven’t actually seen before. The second one? That’s below with all the runners up, and you’ll have to check it our for yourself. We got a ton of responses, so I couldn’t feature them all, but I tried to pull out a few of my favorites.

Congrats to Patricia Rivera (for the above) and William Thyer (for below). Mr. Thyer says he will buy a Ghostbusters costume with his $100 and wear it to school and take pictures, so I am holding him to that. If either of these people are you, email me (paul@unrealitymag.com) with your address and costume pick so we can get your prize out to you.

As for the rest of you, thanks a lot for entering, and I’m sure we’ll do another giveaway shortly.

Fun with Game of Thrones Minimalism

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Television

I like minimalism, I like Game of Thrones, therefore it stands to reason I like a well done combination of the two.

This series of simplistic Game of Thrones images from Thomas Gateley shows the five major houses of the show, along with a tagline that suitably sums them up. Their house animal makes an appearance, and I suppose these could be t-shirts if he really wanted them to be. Unfortunately I just used up my GoT shirt budget for the week already.

It’s been a little while since the show was last on, so pardon my question. Which house was the Arryn’s again? Is that Lady Stark’s family or someone else? I seem to remember the name “John Arryn” but I don’t remember why. Refresh me?

The Lost Official Pokemon Art that No One Ever Saw

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Video Games

Yeah, yeah more Pokemon, but this is pretty damn cool.

We’ve all seen the typical art that first introduced us to all 151 Pokemon. It’s in this sort of style, and each creature is in a pretty memorable pose that’s been burned into our minds.

But as it turns out, the artist who did all these, Ken Sugimori, actually did an alternate set of all 151 for a rare series of playing cards that the world has seldom seen. Until now that is.

I have a full gallery showing the alternate art for each creature, which is cool because nearly everyone is actually executing one of their signature moves, some even against other Pokemon in the same frame. We have Arbok hurling acid on Diglett, a Paras eating Weedle’s head and poor Psyduck getting rocked by about five different Pokemon. It’s a cool series, and I suggest you check out the full line-up below.

Crappy Movie Recommendation of the Week: Body Slam

Published by Nattyb under Columns,Movies

Give that you just saw a bunch of posters that contained pro wrestlers I figured why fight it?  Let’s just stick with the wrestling theme shall we?  Today’s crap movie recommendation is a film the whole world needs to see.  It’s called Body Slam and was made in what I considered to be the height of wrestling:  the mid 80s.

This is when Hulk Hogan reigned supreme and you had dudes like Andre the Giant, Roddy Piper,  Macho Man, Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, and plenty of others riding the helm.

Body Slam is the story of M. Harry Smilac is a down-on-his-luck music manager who is having a hard time attracting talent and booking gigs for his band, Kicks. When making arrangements for a campaign fund-raiser, he mistakes Rick Roberts (played by Roddy Piper), a professional wrestler, for a musician and hires him.  At that moment he becomes a wrestling manager and starts to book matches for him and his teammate Tonga Tom.

How could you not want to watch this movie?  Amazingly I couldn’t find a trailer anywhere but you’ll have to take my word that this movie rocks.

Recasting Movies with Pro Wrestlers

Published by Nattyb under Images

Many of you know me as the nostalgic guy who loves to talk about the “better days” of movies.   Granted I know I’m a little jaded and perhaps I don’t appreciate the new technology medium because I didn’t grow up with it.  Still though, I do miss the “good old days.”

Well the same goes for wrestling.  Remember how awesome it used to be?  I used to think it was real.  I mean the athletes of pro wrestling today are way better than they used to be.  Hell it’s probably more entertaining.  But I’m 32.  So what can you say?

But when I came across this awesome forum that photoshopped old school wrestlers onto movie posters, I was sold.   We’d like to thank the forum members at Something Awful for these pictures.

Now, onto the photos…..

Usually when I find a cool gallery, I’ll take it to post for myself, but today I’ll send you over to GammaSquad for this one. It features an artist named Xiaobaosg whose name I am thankful I don’t have to pronounce, and his take on various games as seen above.

Check him out here.
