Sad Thought of the Day

Published by under Images,Oddly Enough

I haven’t been able to shake being really, truly sad about the death of our space program here in the US in recent weeks. Sure, NASA still exists, but it’s clearly a shell of what it once was, and to think in the ’60s that we’d be going backwards in terms of space travel rather than bounding forward into the unknown is just so tragic.

Looking at Washington and seeing how things like war and nonsensical political battles are our top priorities, I have to wonder when, if ever, are we going to get back on track and start being explorers again. I almost feel like the US is out of the game and it’s going to be up to some other country who doesn’t have their priorities screwed up to pick up where we left off.

Or maybe we’ll all get lucky and aliens will just show up and save us the time and money.

Watch the $10 Million Superman Returns Opening that Was Cut for Obvious Reasons

Published by under Movies,Videos

Perhaps I should go back and watch Superman Returns again, but I think it speaks to the film’s quality that I had no desire to ever go and do just that. It was so…unimpressive that I never felt a need to revisit it, despite seeing other superhero films like X-Men, Spider-Man or The Dark Knight multiple times over.

It was just so dull, and I learned today that it might have been even duller if Bryan Singer got his way. What you’re about to watch is the original intro for the film which cost $10M worth of CGI to render, only to be scrapped because it was just so painfully dull. In the clip, Superman travels to Krypton in a magic spaceship. Why a magic spaceship? I don’t know. I figure he wouldn’t have powers because of a red sun, but then the green kryptonite hurts him anyway. He finds nothing but rocks, and a giant Superman symbol that is large enough where it makes absolutely no sense as to why it’s there. I thought it was maybe supposed to be the title credits for the movie, but that would be equally ridiculous.

Anyway, this should have been cut from the drawing board, and not actually been fully rendered and waste this much cash. Sorry African kids, we know that money could have fed your for three liftetimes, but we needed to make this shitty intro to this crappy movie.

It’s Not Easy Being Green

Published by under Images,Movies

Two of our most beloved fictional characters happen to be small and green, and if they existed in the same universe, it would be hard not to imagine them as friends.

Here Kermit and Yoda are hanging out in Dagobah’s swamps, with Kermit fishing and Yoda looking stoned as hell. You’d kind of have to be to hang out in a swamp for half you’re life.

Much thanks to the artist, whose name I cannot read because it’s a cryptic signature and apparently everyone who has ever posted this image on the internet has no idea where it actually came from.

Update: Artist found with better sleuthing skills than mine.

A Generally Good Gallery of Game Graffiti

Published by under Images,Video Games

You know, I think the politically correct term for graffiti this good is “street art,” but that would have messed up the alliteration in my title so oh well.

It really does take talent to craft pieces like these, and it’s no surprise that many who are into street art culture are also big gamers. Most are from a younger generation after all.

I searched the internet far and wide to see the best examples of video game graffiti and this is what I came up with. I think it went rather well. Check it out for yourself below.

Weekly Movie Rec: The Midnight Meat Train

Published by under Movies

I wanted to do a horror film for this week’s movie recommendation, but I had trouble figure out which was one that many of you probably hadn’t seen, and was still worthwhile. There are waaay too many torture heavy horror films out there today, and I wanted to choose something that breaks from that mold. And Midnight Meat Train certainly does that.

Yes, laugh at the title. It’s hard to deny it doesn’t sound like a very strangely titled porno. But once you get all the dirty thoughts out of your head, you can process that the film revolves around a late night subway car that takes unsuspecting passengers to an unexpected destination with Vinnie Jones as their tour guide.

Jones is Mahogany, yet another character where the actor doesn’t say a word the whole movie. He’s brutal, efficient and mysterious and Bradley Cooper plays a photographer who spots his misdeeds, and gets wrapped up in the saga of the Meat Train, wanting to uncover its secrets.

This movie goes in a direction you will absolutely not expect. A lot of horror movies have twists, but I can’t recall any offhand that take stranger turns than this one. If you’re a fan of the genre, this is one entry you absolutely should check out.

A Gallery from a Masterful Mega Man Art Contest

Published by under Images,Video Games

by Warren Louw

Apparently there’s some sort of ongoing Mega Man art contest going on over at UDON that never seems to end. But browsing through the entries, it’s produced some truly amazing works of art, and makes me want to start our own Unreality art contest. Do we have enough talent in the room? That would be pretty cool.

Anyway, I hunted through and assembled some of the ones I thought were the best. They’re non-traditional looks at Mega Man, who appears to be a dead hero as Capcom insists on beating him to death despite how much he is beloved. Tragic.

Check out the full gallery below, and click on the artist to see their other work.

Memorable Moments in TV: The Best Picket Fences Moment of all Time

Published by under Columns

Does anyone even remember the show Picket Fences? I sure as hell don’t. But believe me I’d have remembered this scene. It’s called “Fantasy.” And rightfully so.

Seriously has there ever been a better geek fantasy than this? I honestly don’t think it’s possible. And can you ever remember Lauren Holly being this hot?

“What’s it gonna be, hockey or sex?” Hahahaha. “Sex is going to happen.”

Interesting Cross Stitching For Nerds

Published by under Images

The mind of a geek never ceases to amaze me.   How folks can come up with stuff like this is something I’ll never know yet it’s something I’ll always treasure.   Sure, let’s just take knitting or stitching or whatever you call it and take it to the next level right?

What you are about to see is a crazy assortment of stitch work that doesn’t just go on cloth.  It gets framed and slapped right up there in important places at a home.  I don’t get it.  I don’t get it but I like it.

Check out the works after the jump…..
