The Last Ten Best Original Song Oscar Winners

Published by at 12:00 pm under Movies,Videos

I guess it’s music week here at Unreality, as I really have just felt like jamming to some movie tunes the past few days. First it was Hans Zimmer, then yesterday I was reminded of the fantastic musical film Once, and now today I’m doing a sort of best of music post. Well, best of according to the Academy at least. You can make your own judgments.

These are in fact the ten songs to win “Best Original Song” at the last ten Oscars. There are a number of good tracks in there, and there are Randy Newman songs, also known as the “Well no one else really tried” award.

It is a really diverse list, as yes, the Three 6 Mafia and Eminem have both won Oscars. Check out the full tracklist below, and guess at what might win next year.

Fun thing to do: Go through and play them all at once. You are now a DJ.

2010 – We Belong Together (Randy Newman – Toy Story 3)

2009 – The Weary Kind (Ryan Bingham and T-Bone Burnett – Crazy Heart)

2008 Jai Ho (A.R. Rahmand and Gulzar – Slumdog Millionaire)

2007 – Falling Slowly (Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova – Once)

2006 – I Need to Wake Up (Melissa Etheridge – An Inconvenient Truth)

2005 – It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp (Three 6 Mafia – Hustle and Flow)

2004 – Al otro lado del río – (Jorge Drexler – The Motorcylce Diaries)

2003 – Into the West (Fran Walsh, Howard Shore and Annie Lennox – Lord of the Rings: ROTK)

2002 – Lose Yourself (Eminem – 8 Mile)

2001 – If I Didn’t Have You (Randy Newman – Monsters Inc.)

Falling Slowly might be the only I can stand to actually listen to more than once. Maybe Eminem, as well.

I need to wake up is the worst one here. Making a song for a movie about Global Warming is like shooting fish in a barrel for the Oscars.

I hate what those fuckers did to that song from Slumdog Millionaire, they where thinking that some guy from india would be bad for business and then put the pussycat dolls to sing and appear more than him, what a smart move… what a bunch of assholes

Extend it out one more year for even more quirk…Things Have Changed by Bob Dylan (Wonder Boys)

You can say what you want about Eminem, but 8mile was a damn good movie. I never would have thought that a rapper could make such a thing.

You should probably use the proper version of Jai Ho, rather than the awful, autotuned Pussycat Dolls version.

Eminem is the only song that doesn’t suck
