Wait, This is Superman’s New Costume?

Published by at 3:00 pm under Comics,Images

I guess not that many people read comics any more, as DC is doing some really, really weird shit in order to “reboot” their entire universe to get people talking about it again.

One of their most controversial decisions has been to redesign Superman’s costume from what you see on the right, to what you see on the left. Seriously. The Man of Steel now wears a T-shirt, workboots, rolled up form fitting jeans and a baby half cape. Uhhh.

Not sure if this is supposed to be some sort of “working man, blue collar hero” thing, but he looks like he’s just phoning it in on casual Friday. There’s no way this would ever translate to the upcoming film, but good lord DC, what are you thinking? Are you upset that Green Lantern is getting absolutely leveled by critics right now? Oh well, at least you’ll always have The Dark Knight (errr, for one more film).

i beleive the image on the left is the “year one” costume and he is to be vulnerable and more of a “social activist” (its red son!) and on the right is the powered-up farther down the line, yet still armored superman. two diff. books and two diff times/stories. dont quote me on it though…you never know what those crazies will do…

The one on the left is for Action Comics, which Grant Morrison is writing, and the one on the right is Superman.

I approve of them getting rid of the underwear on the outside, I’ll say that.

Superman is one of the most difficult comics to write for. With so many powers and limited vulnerabilities, his only enemy is fashion.

Fashion comes and goes; Superman remains. It is the ideal and belief that are important, not the clothing. Seriously, when an entire identity can be hidden by a pair of glasses and acting a bit less smart, then the source material can be held as justification. I don’t even like DC comics that much, and I’m saying “whoa, give ‘em a chance”.

Your article is pretty much completely wrong. These books are both being released at the same time. The costume on the left is most likely what his costume will be when he begins his career. The one on the right is the actual costume he will be wearing. It is not known for sure what the one on the left is but the new costume is the one on the right.

Why would Superman need body armor?
Why not give him a jet pack, too?

I’m not liking it too much, he is supposed to be mild mannered.

U’ve got to be kidding me? Talk about being completely uncreative. what’s the backstory? Lois Lane shrunk his uniform in the laundry and this was the man of steel could do in such short notice? Couldn’t his homey bruce wayne hook him up with some flyer threads. I mean, man!!!
