I remember when I got Pokemon Stadium on Nintendo 64. I was as excited as a little boy could be. Finally, after years of seeing them duke it out on my tiny Game Boy screen, I was at least going to see them rumble in 3D graphics on my TV! (this was back when 3D meant polygons, not wearing stupid glasses and getting headaches).
I booted the game up, and it was one of the most disappointing experiences of my life. Despite being three dimensional, the battles were even MORE tame than they were on Game Boy. Turn based combat is one thing but when you characters never even move? I shut the game off when Hitmonchan landed a mega punch, and instead of racing over there and socking Electabuzz in the face, a simple fist icon appear on top of him, and he keeled over hurt.
So finally, something has come along where Pokemon actually battle each other the way they were meant to, by ACTUALLY fighting. We saw this a bit in Smash Bros, but now there’s a new fan made title in the style of Street Fighter that has Pokemon duking it out in real time. Check out its glory above.
