The Final Countdown: Comic-Con Shows, Sonic’s Anniversary and Edible Silent Hill Nurses

Published by under Final Countdown

Go here to see what TV shows will be at Comic-Con.

SDCC is going to kind of suck this year as almost every major movie studio has bowed out of the event. All that’s left are a few films and a bunch of TV shows, set to try and make an impression come fall.

Unreality’s Facebook page wishes The Walking Dead would come back sooner.

Get Your Candy Ass to Disney World

Published by under Images

Why yes, this absolutely is the greatest Splash Mountain picture ever taken. Even more so than all the ones where girls flash the camera that Disney is never allowed to show.

No, that’s not just any giant dude going down the waterfall, that is indeed The Rock, bringing  his unique brand of enthusiasm to Disney World.

I follow him on Twitter, and every single day I wake up to a tweet that’s something along the lines of “KICK ASS TODAY! THE WORLD IS YOURS MOTHERF****ER! #TEAMBRINGIT.” It’s undeniably motivating to have The Rock digitally boot my ass into gear every morning.

Playstation’s Surprisingly Deep “Double Life” Commercial

Published by under Video Games,Videos

Why do you game?

Most will say fun, or enjoyment, or some other similar notion, but there’s a real reason that the vast majority of us do what we do: escapism.

The fact is, the vast majority of us are very normal people with very normal lives. We will never get to steal cars or run from the police or kill terrorists. And while a few of us might actually do those things, I gurantee no one will ever slay a dragon, fly a spaceship or or be an all powerful warlock. Video games simply allow us to lead another life full of far more exciting things than ours.

This Playstation commercial features zero actual game footage, but captures that sentiment, and in turn is one of the most effective video game spots I’ve ever seen.

I See Your Pokebra, and Raise You a Nintendobra

Published by under Images,Video Games

You know, when i wrote about the Pokebra a few months back, I thought I’d seen the max level of how nerdy female underwear could get.

I was wrong.

Behold, the Nintendobra, or NESbra if you wish. Someone has upgrade their undergarment to a level of nerd-dom that’s unprecedented, and I think this works better than the Pokebra because well, you’re supposed to press those buttons and use that D-pad right?

Additional question, why when being showcased are these not actually being WORN. I feel we would all appreciate it a little more if that was the case.

[buy this on Etsy, with the Pokebra to boot]

A Gallery of the Most Accurate Female Video Game Costumes

Published by under Images,Video Games

Alright, I’ve seen so many amazing examples of cosplay over the last year or two, I decided to put some of them into one master post. But as I don’t want an endlessly long gallery, I tried to restrict it with a few basic criteria: video game related and female. Any complaints?

As you’ll see in my title, this is not the “Hottest Video Game Cosplayers” as has been done (probably by us), but the “Most Accurate.” As it so happens, the two often go hand in hand, as there are very few female characters in games that anyone would consider unattractive. I picked each of these girls because even though many have tried to portray these specific characters, it takes a very specific look, and a hell of a talented costume designer to make sure they’re the absolute best, which I consider these selections to be. A professional photographer doesn’t hurt either.

Some of these we’ve featured here before with their own galleries, some are new finds I hadn’t see until today. I tried to cover every major video game female that came to mind, with a few supporting characters to boot, and if I missed one in particular let me know, and I’ll start a hunt.

Gallery begins below:

Mario’s Friends and Enemies Get a Terrifying Makeover

Published by under Images,Video Games

CG art is quickly becoming as cool or cooler than traditional art, as KatonC demonstrates above.

He’s taken a few characters from the Mushroom Kingdom and pumped them up to grotesque proportions with the help of computer modeling and a bit of creativity. As you can see, Wario is in full roid rage mode above, having converted his rolls into Incredible Hulk-like muscle mass.

Below we have Peach, looking like a beauty pageant runner up turned 40 year old meth addict with a bad boob job. That’s not an insult to the sculpting, I really think that’s what he was going for. And below that there’s a spiked Koopa, ready to tear Mario a new rectum. Check out both below:

Zack Gorman’s New Type of Webcomic

Published by under Images,Video Games

It can be hard to stand out in an era where webcomics would tend to blend together over time. You need a unique art style, or a unique concept to make yours stand out.

Zack Gorman has both, and is the first example I’ve seen of a GIF motion webcomic. I’m sure that you’ll all yell at me and tell me he wasn’t the first to do it, but whatever, he’s the first I’ve seen, and his stuff is damn funny.

He focuses mostly on the Legend of Zelda, but sometimes expands to other Nintendo characters as well. I’ve pulled some of his better ones above and below so you can get a better idea of what I’m talking about. I threw in a few of his still pieces too for good measure.

Memorable Moments in Movies: The Keyser Soze Discovery

Published by under Columns,Movies

Obviously we’re talking MAJOR spoiler alert if you haven’t seen the movie The Usual Suspects.  But the reason I put up this scene is that I think this movie started a nice little wave of “surprise endings” in film.  Sure there are plenty of mysteries out there but I’m willing to bet that before 1995 you weren’t hearing too many people talk about movies where they said “there’s no way you figured out that ending!”

And after 1995?  There were definitely some movies that tried the same “surprises” that could only be found after watching the entire movie.   One that comes to mind is Fight Club.  Another would be Along Came a Spider.  Hell even The Sixth Sense probably counts right?

In any event, in this scene Verbal Kint is not who he says he is. When Dave Kujan discovers that he’s been making up his whole story with elements from his office he just can’t believe it.   Meanwhile Verbal Kint just disappears.  And just like that….he’s gone.

The point I’m making is that I don’t recall any movies of this caliber and difficulty in figuring out prior to 1995.  At least in my own generation of films which I would argue started in about 1985.

Anyway, this scene absolutely rocks.

Awesome Quotes from 10 Quentin Tarantino Movies

Published by under Lists,Movies

Now I know it’s nearly impossible to please everyone here.   I really just wanted to write this article to have a small walk down memory lane of Quentin Tarentino movies.   Sure I know there are 1000s of amazing quotes that can be used, but I tried my best to pick one from each of these 10 movies that I felt struck a chord in me.

Doesn’t mean it struck a chord in you.  So relax.  Anyway,  not all these movies are Tarantino directed but all have his involvement in the writing of the script.

Enjoy!

The Morning Link: Are Video Games Reducing Violent Crime?

Published by under Morning Link

I’ve said it before, and people now agree with me. If you’re killing people in a game, you’re not doing it in real life, and now new evidence suggest that anger-releasing violent games could in part contribute to a drop in crime.

Go here to read more.
