Toy Story Used To Be a Lot Freakier
It takes a lot of work to create an adorable beloved cartoon franchise, and if you don’t believe that, take a look at these early concepts for what Toy Story originally looked like.
For unknown reasons, Woody is not only giant, but a terrifying marionette devoid of the soothing voice of Tom Hanks. Buzz is tiny in comparison, and like a hyper little red chipmunk.
Thankfully they went through a whole bunch of Q&A and realized that some significant changes were in order, because if they came out with this version? I’m not so sure Pixar would even exist today.

Well let’s just say I’m glad they didn’t go down that path. That was kind of terrifying.
I think this is from “The Pixar Story,” a documentary about how Pixar came about and leading up to Cars. Its available to watch instantly on Netflix, and is actually kinda cool. Pixar certainly toots their own horn a lot, but that’s probably to be expected. A large portion of the movie focuses on the challenges and risks as they created Toy Story. Check it out.
If that’s what all Pixar movies looked like in the first stages, I think the real props should go to whoever Pixar gets to participate in their Q & A groups, because they are apparently the ones making Pixar’s movies so good.
