A Decade of Pixar Easter Eggs

Published by at 3:00 pm under Images,Movies

We all know that Pixar is pitching practically a perfect game for the last ten years when it comes to CGI movies for kids and adults, but you were probably so engrossed in the stories, you missed all the little things the filmmakers put in there.

Specifically, they have references to their past films at least once in almost every movie. Above you’ll find a collection of some of the cooler ones, and I’m sure there are more than aren’t featured here. I’ve seen one or two of these, but most are onscreen for a matter of seconds, and unless you’re looking for them and are a quick draw with the pause button, you’ll miss them.

Do you think that last one was purposefully modeled to be an older Boo? If so, bra-vo.

Actually half of these are references to future movies, which is even cooler. Specifically Nemo in Monsters, Inc., Mr. Incredible in Nemo, Doc Hudson in Incredibles, and Doug in Ratatouille which was actually 2 movies out.

How about all of the Pizza Planet trucks? I know there have been articles on this site about them. Speaking of past articles, a113 is in just about every Pixar movie.

@Guy Incognito – Except he didn’t, seeing as it’s in his list.

  6. Joshon 04 May 2011 at 8:49 pm

@Joe: I think Guy was referring to it not being in his own list.

The ball from Luxo Jr. also pops up everywhere and I do remember Luigi from Cars is also somewhere in Toy Story 2.

They do it on purpose, it’s called Meta-Advertising.
I only know that because I took a media course in high school.

Don’t forget the Dinoco station in Toy Story

This is no mystery. Pixar teamed up with Disney where Disney did the same thing. They have a small piece of a character that is in another movie. It’s like a trademark. Pixar just inherited the same idea. If anyone collected Iron Maiden vinyl, the artist had a logo that was hidden on the albums. Kinda like saying, “Can you spot the symbol”. Same thing here. It is cool that this was pointed out though. Just think that it isn’t necessarily a flaw like the movie mistakes on here. I do enjoy those.

Well there is going to be a new Monsters Inc coming out so it doesn’t surprise me to see an older Boo.

A113 is a reference to one of the design studios at CalArts where most of the Pixar clan hail from, including Joe Lassiter.

I’m pretty sure Porkchop is in Wall-E on one of his shelves too. And I’d bet there are more in there somewhere in those piles of wondrous junk in his hideout. :]

Thanks for posting! I hadn’t seen half of these. Very cool.

Boo in Toy Story 3 makes you wonder.

@monstrinho, totoro’s 1st pixar appearance was toystory 3. Disney only did the English dub for Ghibli

I remembered watching toy story on vhs about 2 years ago and noticed that while buzz and woody are trying to catch up to andy’s van (near the end of the movie) I thought I saw something familiar. So I rewinded, paused and (thought it was grainy) saw in the driveway of one of the many houses they pass by, wall-e beside some trash cans. I instantly googled it and found out that the first idea for a pixar film was wall-e, not toy story. But pixar found the storyline too complicated to animate so they just stuck wall-e in as an easter agg and that’s how they started.
Another easter egg I found was not a pixar film, but in “tangled.” if you keep a sharp eye while watching the “I’ve got a dream” song, after the ugly thug sings “…I’m a lover not a fighter” and swings the little cupid guy around the pub, sitting high up on a pillar is pinnochio.

I swear they do this to put subconcious messages and images in our mind isnt it?
Seen it before, in a good movie, so the image comes back to us before watching the new film, thus another sneeky way of adding a feeling of security to the viewer…meaining sales go up.

    @ #Moe
Pixar already has plans for a Monsters Inc. 2, that’s probably what it was referencing.
