What’s Old is New Again

Nintendo is always praised for trying to innovate in the world of video games, but if you stop and look, it’s clear that they’ve been looking toward the past toward innovation.

With rumors that controllers with screen were coming to their new console, it’s yet another in a string of product revamps Nintendo has undergone in the last few years. At least they’re ripping off their own products I suppose.

I’m not saying this is wrong, at their core, many of these are good ideas, it’s just funny to realize they’ve been done before, and some many, many years ago.

Just watch when Nintendo reveals it, Mircosoft and Sony now have their pens and paper out ready to take notes on how to rip them off.

I like what Nintendo is doing. Those earlier models showed what was tehnically possible in the late 80′s/early 90′s, which looks pretty damn archaic nowadays. So I see this as Nintendo showing the world what the real essence of their original ideas was. Do you think Nintendo would have made that Power Glove if they had the technology available to make the Wiimote?

At least they are being more innovative than the competition. lol The only real innovations that Nintendo’s competitors have had are graphical updates and online play. True, Nintendo often improves on its own previous ideas, but all of their previous ideas were pretty much unheard of at the time.

It is interesting though, I hadn’t thought to connect the Gamecube/GBA thing to Project Cafe…we’ll have to wait and see if the rumors are true, but if so, that’s an interesting comparison.

The Dreamcast has an integrated VMU that has a small LCD screen on it that can be used during a game. It can also be removed and you can play simple game on it.

    Sega does what Nintendon’t.

That’s because nintendo is usually forward thinking and using technology that’s ahead of it’s time. I’ve heard the new controllers for the new system might be essentially a game system in itself. Kind of reminds me of the Dreamcast controllers.

Scot..how pathetic is your life? Rip them off? You mean do it MUCH better?

So… because Nintendo came out with a motion controller (which was not new in general) Microsoft can’t come out with a MUCH more superior control system..that quite frankly, isn’t even like the Wiimote to begin with.

Your pathetic bitch ass comment is like saying that Nintendo ripped off Atari by coming out with a console in the mid 80s.

Lakawak, without Nintendo doing that in the 80s, you wouldn’tbe playing video games today.
