Debate of the Day: What’s Your Favorite Video Game Gun?
So I’m told Bulletstorm came out yesterday, a self-proclaimed “balls to the wall” shooter that Fox News thinks is going to turn children into rapists. A lot of the focus is on the vast array of weaponry you can use in the game, which lets you do cool kill combos and such. I’m not buying this as I’m told it’s pretty short, but I’ll give it a rent someday.
Anyway, it got me thinking back to what some of my favorite video game guns have been. I’ve played an ass ton of shooters in my day, so there’s a lot to choose from. I’ll open up the floor for debate, but I’ll just pull a few of mine off the top of my head.
Goldeneye – The RCP-90. How could you not love that thing?
Perfect Dark – The Laptop Gun. Completely unfair.
Halo 3 – Spartan Laser. There’s nothing more gratifying.
Modern Warfare 2 – Silenced UMP45. Run and gun.
Black Ops – AUG extended mag. Won’t know what hit them.
Borderlands - Pestilent Defiler Acid Revolver. Eats through armor, skin, whatever.

I always thought the plasma rifle from Fallout was pretty cool. Nothing like liquidating your enemies into puddles of green goo.

The BFG 9000 from Doom was a hoot. But not sure anything beats the sheer dependability of the BR from Halo 2.
Other favorites:
Perfect Dark: Laptop Gun, chuck one of these into your opponents respawn area and just wait for the curses to start flowing.
Golden Eye: not a gun but Proximity Mines were just mass chaos

Halo 3: My Fist!.. if i must i guess ill use my BR or a skull…

Fallout 3′s Rock-it Launcher… nothing like blowing a Brute’s head off with a teddy bear.

Are we really going to forget about the Lancer (chainsaw gun) from Gears of War?
Also, the Torque bow (I know, not a gun, but whatever) from GoW.

GoW: Lancer, greatest gun never invented
SBC Cannon from Serious Sam: Second Encounter.
10mm HV Penetrator from FEAR. Also the feet, the melee attacks in that game are the best in any FPS I’ve seen.

Halo Reach Battle Rifle. I like it better than the Halo 2/3 battle rifle because it is single shot. I always found myself running out of ammo quickly with the triple shot. Also, I remember seeing a Halo 2 preview video at one point where the Battle Rifle was single shot, so they were obviously thinking about it at the time.

GoldenEye: Dostovei, the sound is awesome and I love handguns.
Fallout 3: Railway gun, pinning body parts to the wall.
I also love Sniper rifles but I can’t think of one that really stands out.
Oh yeah, and the bow in Turok64
I thought the cerebral bore and tek-bow from turok 2 they were cool weapons. Plus shotgun with explosive shells from that game also was very satisfying. really enjoyed that game really

Not the gamer that most of you are, but going way back, i’m gonna say the Razorjack in Unreal II.
More modernly, I’m a big fan of the M95 sniper rifle and the A416 in Battlefield Bad Company 2
My favorite gun came towards the end of the first Red Faction FPS for the PC. It was a rail gun that could reveal heat signatures from other humans in other rooms, then shoot right through the wall and take them out before they knew what hit them.
Yes, it was easy mode, but it made me feel wonderfully overpowered and I absolutely loved it.

mw2- Tar 21 with stopping power and AA12 extended mags

cod4- G36c with stopping power
All time favorite weapon from any game
Rail Driver from Red Faction 1&2. It had the option to see through walls and kill anyone at any time. So, Basically, just find a place where do one can reach you and kill till your hearts content.
Um, the Shark Cannon from Armed and Dangerous is the most amazing gun ever!
red faction 2: nano GL six rapid firing grenades? learned to hit noobs from across the map
Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II railgun. It had an alt fire with a delay that you stick to a wall and catch unsuspecting noobs as they came around a corner.

Counter strike – AWP – you get good with that sucker and you can really make some enemies… Use the scout if you want a challenge.
COD Black Ops – AK-74u – you get it early but it’ll last you the whole game.
I was a big fan of the Groovetron from Ratchet and Clank. Who wouldn’t want a gun that makes your enemies dance in place so you can hit them with a big stick.
COD4 – G36C, Red Dot
MW2 – ACR, Red Dot, M203
BO – Commando, Red Dot, Dual Mags
Resistance – AUG (creating barriers and shooting through them rocks)
Goldeneye – PP7 (I like doing things the James Bond way)
nothing beats the Farsight from Perfect Dark. shooting through walls is awesome and people got so pissed when they seemingly just would die for no reason.
TF2 – Heavy’s Minigun

It has to be the gravity gun in Half-Life 2. For a few reasons:
1.) It was an unprecedented revolutionary gun in gaming.
2.) It was incredibly innovative, allowing the user to use the world around them to turn it into a dynamic gun of variable lethality and utilization.
3.) Clearly a precursor to the Portal gun.
Gotta be the gravity gun.

Gauss Rifle from Fallout 3 (so far). Beautiful scope, excellent power for a one-shot kill from a hidden nest… but if you lost the advantage of surprise, nothing beat the plasma rifle with good power, a high rof and a decent mag cap. But then again, who needs mag cap when you have one-shot skill?

The Armacham Type 7 particle weapon from F.E.A.R. One shot and yer target is a char-broiled skeleton. Buhzap!
Whoop! Almost fergot, close second, the Singularity Gun (a.k.a. The Nuke) from Turok 2.

Cerebral bore from Turok, railgun from Quake, Pistol from 1st Halo and absolutely every weapon to grace the numerous Ratchet and Clank games…Every one of them was pure golden
Has everyone forgotten about EVERY WEAPON in the Timesplitters series? The dual SPB-90′s made you feel like a god amongst monkeys….

I like th comment about every shotgun in any game
Evar. But I will say my top favorite shotties are Halo Reach’s shotgun, The Ithica from Res Ev 5, and the SPAZ 12 from rainbow six Vegas 2. Also the pistol in the first Bioshock. Fully upgraded and godly! And how can I forget, the Portal gun! Oh! And the spy’s pistol in TF2. K I have to stop myself. So many to choose!
One of the early Turok’s had a gun called the Cerebral Bore – and no, its’ not a librarian reading a book.

Really, did no one play TimeSplitters 2? The plasma rifle had a second function that was sticky plasma grenades. It was made by the same team that did Golden Eye, plus one of the best arcade/ challege modes ever.
Number one gun, no matter what, I dont care if you never played it or if you played em all… BFG. just the name alone says it all.
GoldenEye – Dual Phantoms. Could only get them on Frigate

Counter Stike – Thats a hard one… dualies, deagle, AK, m4, awp, scout. Damn I miss that game

GTA4 – Sawed off shotty. One shot point blank into the backside of a car = BOOM

Turok 2; Cerebral Bore- Nothing like watching their brains spray everywhere before it blows up their head.
Mass Effect 2; M-920 Cain- It shot nukes.
Serious Sam; SBC Cannon- Litterally a cannon. Like from a Pirate ship. Also the Serious Bomb, Instant Death with a Smile.
Crysis; Molecular Accelerator- It freezes water in the air into icicles and shoots them at you.
Star Wars Battlefront 2; Dark Trooper’s Arc Caster- So much fun to land in front of a group and zap em all.
This debate gave me enough knowledge on what kinds of video games are available. I will choose something too good on this.
