Gotham High: The Animated Batman Teen Show that Never Was

Here’s something I almost guarantee you never knew about. A couple of years ago there was almost an animated Batman series about his high school years. Overlooking the concept destroys all sorts of canon plot points, when you see how it would have looked, it’s absolutely AWESOME.

It was animated by the duo Jeff and Celeste, and was reportedly sent to DC but got lost among a million other Batman projects currently happening at the same time, though I think this one would have stood out over all of them.

There are a few more concept stills from what would have been the show below, with the heroes and villains put in various high school click roles. There’s jocks Bane and Killer Croc beating up on nerds Edward Nigma and the Penguin. Joker and Scarecrow are emo kids, while popular cheerleader Poison Ivy runs against Harvey Dent for student body president. Meanwhile, Catwoman and Batgirl compete for Bruce Wayne’s attention.

This really would have been cool in a “Clone High” kind of way, and I’d highly recommend DC file this one away for later.

I got to be honest. I like the look but HATE the idea. Sure it would be fun, but like you said would be total cannon.

I think your misunderstood the meaning of canon in this context MR.

I kept waiting for a line in the article that said this developed into Teen Titans.

The Joker here reminds me of The Joker in “The Batman” cartoon, (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0398417/)

Nice shout-out to Clone High, probably my favourite cartoon series.

I agree with MR. How would the story work out here? The Joker leave a bag of crap in front of the principal’s door. Later teenage batman brings down the Joker? “I am the symbol this town needs”? It just sounds like a South Park parody. What…instead of Arkham asylum, you have Arkham detention hall? Come on…

    I miss the gargoyles…

Wouldn’t Bruce go to private school?

I guess Ra’s al Ghul is the school stoner? It does kind of fit in a strange way.

Hrm, this looks like a fun series. Plus Harley’s never been hotter! I say sign me up !

    I don’t think that’s Ra’s Bert, I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be Clayface.

This is one of those things that would be awesome at first, and then just kind of fall by the wayside. My main concern is what exactly is Batman going to do?? Like, is he just going to fight crime in the school?? Does the school take place of the whole city?? Is Bruce Wayne still rich?? What about the villians, like Killer Croc, so, he’s just a big crocodile person, and that’s okay with people?? Look, I’m sorry, but no, a dude that has a sever physical deformity would not survive in a normal high school. Oh well, guess we’ll never have to worry about it.

I’m getting flashbacks to a show that used to play; X-men Evolution. Same exact concept, just with x-men.

@ Alpert – that could be true. I figured Ra’s cause of the beard they show. Hard to tell since he’s the only character not represented in the other pictures. Except for Mr. Freeze, but he’s pretty obvious.

One question who is the dreadhead kid…is that suppose to be clayface.

Awful. Simply awful. Not everything is high school.

Okay, I’m going to say right now that the idea of a high school Batman is absolutlely ludacris. But the designs here are…well, lets put it this way: I would be Jokers Harly Quinn any day. That HAIR!

Being a HUGE Batman fan since birth I honestly have to say that its too bad this didnt work cuz I think it would be awesome. I love how they have have everyone categorized in different cliques. I also think it would be cool if Gordon was the principal, Ra’s al Ghul as the evil teacher, Dick Grayson, Talia al Ghul, and Tim Drake as Bruces little brother with Alfred as their father figure character

I can just imagine the foreign exchange episode featuring Diana Prince.
