The Final Countdown: A Tale of Two Bergs, Cereal Mascots and Casual Games

Published by Paul Tassi under Final Countdown

Go here to see Mark Zuckerberg meet Jesse Eisenberg.

SNL is still funny sometimes these days, and this weekend it did something pretty significant when it brought out host Jesse Eisenberg (who plays Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network), Andy Samberg (who plays him on SNL) and then the actual Mark Zuckerberg. That’s a lot of bergs. Click above to see the clip.

Unreality’s Facebook page is…oh I see what you did there Zuckerberg. STOP OWNING THE INTERNET.

A Mass Effect Derp Group Photo

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Video Games

Of course they pick the one photo where everyone looks like a retard. I really need to buy the DLC for this game so I can find out who hooded chick and scarface guy are. Because the one thing Mass Effect 2 desperately needed was MORE crew members.

I think Grunt has to be my favorite one in this picture, as I didn’t know it was even possible for Krogans to smile. A close second is Jacob however, who with that goofy look on his face, looks 100% like Kanye West. Try and tell me he doesn’t.

Alien vs. Dead Space

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Movies,Video Games

This awesome picture is from vitorazgo over at Deviant Art that shows two legends of space going at it, Isaac Clarke from Dead Space, and well, you know the other guy.

But for as brutal as the Alien and his brethren are, I have to give the edge to Isaac here. Have you SEEN what he can do to all manner of creepy, slimy, snarling aliens with those laser cutting power tools of his? Let’s just say they make bullets look grossly inefficient, and it’s hard to murder someone with no arms, legs or a head.

Alright, now I have to figure out a way to get my hands on Dead Space 2 without spending $60 or voiding my Xbox warranty. I’m guessing there’s zero chance Blockbuster would have it to rent yet. Come to think of it, is Blockbuster even still in business? When is Netflix going to start mailing out and streaming games and hammer that final nail in their coffin?

Now That’s What I Call Art

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Movies

If you’re like me, you may find it a little hard to understand the world of modern art, in which a giant slinky painted with polka dots can be sold for $500,000 as commentary on the Israel/Palestine conflict. But this piece from artist David Herbert is one I fully appreciate.

It’s a VHS tape of 2001: A Space Odyssey, built to the dimensions of the giant black monolith from the film. Past the shape and color similarities, I’m not sure if a more broad statement is being made here, but if I were Bill Gates I’d plunk down a million to pick that up to decorate my home theater.

Unreal Movie Review: The Rite

Published by Paul Tassi under Movies,Reviews

Once upon a time, there was a movie made called The Exorcist. Thanks to great direction, a young actress named Linda Blair and some pea soup, it’s been cemented as a horror classic ever since.

Unfortunately, the success of The Exorcist has spawned a thousand imitators since its release, and we’ve been plagued with a class of sub-par exorcism films in recent years that have lost the shock and terror that made the original so memorable. Maybe we’re just desensitized, or maybe  these are just bad films.

The Rite is a bad film. It’s a bad horror movie that’s trying to play dress-up to be a bad psychological drama, posing questions about religion and doubt that are neither compelling or even resolved by the end. Stop me if you’ve heard this before:

Debate of the Day: Should Superman Be British?

Published by Paul Tassi under Debate,Movies

Good morning people, it’s Monday, it’s the end of January, it’s freezing here and this guy is Superman. Wait, what?

Yes, for some reason Warner Bros. thought the best time to make their latest giant casting announcement was yesterday, and let us know in an official statement that Count of Monte Cristo and Tudors actor Henry Cavill was going to be their new Man of Steel.

I don’t know much about the guy, as Monte Cristo was like a decade ago, and I haven’t seen an episode of The Tudors. I will say that he looks the part of a young Clark Kent/Superman with all those chiseled features the good Lord has blessed him with, and I’m willing to give him a shot.

But here’s the rub. Superman has always represented truth, justice and the American way. Cavill is British. Is this a problem?

There seem to be two sides to this argument. One is that currently Batman and Spider-Man are also British (Christian Bale and Andrew Garfield) and Wolverine is Australian (Hugh Jackman), so who cares if the actor playing Superman is from the wrong country of origin if he can fake the accent convincingly?

The counterpoint however is that Superman is more uniquely American than any other superhero (except uh, Captain America). Yes, his popularity has exploded worldwide, but in the comics, he’s always been closely tied to America, often doing the bidding of the US government directly.

I’m in the “don’t give a shit as long as it’s a good movie” camp, but I’m curious to hear if any of you object to this decision. If so, why? And it doesn’t have to be because of the British thing.

The Most All-Encompassing Sci-Fi Mural Ever

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Movies,Television

Maybe someday when Unreality grows to be as big as IGN (it’ll happen with your help!), we can get an awesome artist to come and paint a mural in our office hallways. And maybe we’ll even HAVE an office! That would be something.

Jim Mahfood painted this epic sci-fi collage for IGN, and it’s one of the cooler thing I’ve ever seen decorate an office. There are creatures and characters from all over the sci fi universe, and you’ll have to see the full gallery of the individual pieces to find them all, which you can check out below.

That Guy Actor of the Week: Richard Kind

Published by Nattyb under Columns

I want to thank Richard Kind for bringing a new idea to the table.  I’m sure you’re all familiar with character actors.  And obviously you know the leading role type actor.  But Mr. Kind brings us a kind of actor that I like to call “filler actor.”   What does this mean exactly?  Well a filler actor is the kind of guy who doesn’t really matter much in the grand scheme of things but he’s a good guy to have around.

In fact, he/she is kind of necessary because with out him/her you might have too much star power and not enough diversity in a film.  Kind always seems to deliver in that role.  In particular I liked him in Vice Versa and Nothing in Common.  But Kind has been around.  It’s mostly TV now but the dude has 125 credits to his name.

And I’ll bet you didn’t know his name but you knew his face right?  A clip of kind after the jump….

Five Kick Ass Video Game Movie Fan Trailers

Published by Nattyb under Movies,Videos

I don’t want you guys to get mistaken here.  I’m not talking about trailers to video games that were turned into movies.   I’m talking about fans that go out of their way to make movie trailers based on video games.  So it’s as if the video game were a movie itself.

There are some pretty creative people out there and you’d be surprised at some of the concepts that people have come up with here.

Check out the five examples after the jump….. Continue Reading »

The Morning Link: The Craziest Plot Twists on TV

Published by Paul Tassi under Morning Link

I don’t think I’ll ever forget the “Scott Tennorman Must Die” episode of South Park where Eric had his rival eating his chili-flavored parents by the end of the episode. This was my favorite moment on the list, but there are plenty more to choose from.

Go here to see the rest.
