Eight Instances of “That was HER?”

Published by at 12:00 pm under Lists,Movies

I was watching The Grinch the other day to get in the Christmas spirit (surprisingly hilarious movie by the way), and the question came up about if Cindy Lou Who went on to do anything afterwards.

I whipped out my iPhone and sure enough, I discovered that the wee lass was none other than Taylor Momsen, who grew up to be super skanky on Gossip Girl.

I started to wonder when else I’ve been shocked to learn who today’s hotties used to be in classic movies during their youth, so I thought I’d make a list about it. Read on.

1. Hayden Panettiere in Remember the Titans

This one weirds a lot of people out, that Hayden was actually the spunky, football loving girl from Remember the Titans. Doesn’t seem like that long ago does it?

2. Emmanuelle Chirqui in Snow Day

Before she had anything to do with E on Entourage, Sloan was breaking hearts in Snow Day, and was my roommate’s first crush which is why I thought to include her here.

3. Anna Paquin in The Piano

Anna Paquin actually won an Oscar for her performance in The Piano at age eleven, making her the second youngest recipient of the award ever.

4. Taylor Momsen in The Grinch

The girl who inspired this post has also inspired an argument between my girlfriend and me about whether or not she’s hot. I say yes, she says no. Now she’s gotten all gothed out, but in her early years on Gossip Girl I’m sticking with my claim.

5. Scarlett Johansson in The Horse Whisperer

Is that not the creepiest picture of Scarlet Johansson you’ve ever seen? It’s also the first time I’ve ever had to use the filename “Johansson horse.jpg” which sounds like it could be a different image altogether.

6. Natalie Portman in The Professional

Most people will know this is how Natalie Portman got her start, but most will forget how creepy this role actually was when she dresses up in lingerie and dances for a 40 year old man.

7. Kirsten Dunst in Interview With the Vampire

Kirsten Dunst creeped me out in The Vampire Diaries as a sex-obsessed child-immortal, and frankly, she creeps me out now still.

8. Eliza Dushku in True Lies

She doesn’t look like she’d be Arnold’s daughter to me, but it was his duty to protect her in True Lies. Eventually she would grow up to be able to kick ass all on her own.

Update: Alright so this isn’t from True Lies, and I don’t understand why I can’t find a picture of her from that movie. C’mon internet!

I’m not a 100% on that photo of Dushku actually being from True Lies. Looks too young.

That was Eliza Dushku in True Lies? Shit I remember watching that with my dad back in the day – he had a thing for Jamie Lee Curtis and I had a thing for Arnold’s daughter so it was a win-win-win. The third “win” representing the epicness of that movie, of course.

Speaking of Arnold’s daughters, in Commando, his daughter was played by Alyssa Milano. Oh yeah.

  • Shazam

that wasn’t eliza dushku in true lies, she was in her mid teens when she made true lies.

Mila Kunis was in the 1995 remake of Piranha.

    So was Soleil Moon Frye.

I have it on VHS. :)

I thought Kristen Stewart and Panic Room would be on this list.

Go back another 4 years with Scarlett Johansson and she was in North as the daughter in the ideal family (with John Ritter as the dad) near the end. I saw that on TV a couple months ago and was blown away. A little older but maybe the most famous example is Drew Barrymore in ET.

I had thios happen with Natalie Portman too, only the first movie I saw her in was Beautiful Girls. No lingerie striptease, but she does serve as somewhat of a creepy unrequited crush for Timothy Hutton’s character – I believe he’s supposed to be in his early thirties and she’s playing a thirteen year old.

Nice list, had no idea that Taylor Momsen was on the Grinch :O Also, you’re missing stunner Alyssa Milano from Commando!

Also Alysaa Milano in Commando and ScarJo in Home Alone 3.

  • Lagrange

    Yes, I vote hot.

    Also:

    “Her?”

  • BOLT

    Goth or not she’s hot

  • Ellie

    Isn’t Taylor Momsen seventeen?

Also, she wears so much eyeliner that she looks like a raccoon.
And I hear that she’s also in a Led Zeppelin-Deep Purple-esque band (though it’s not really) and that she flashed at a concert.

    Thank you The Soup.

  • Mike

Mila Kunis was in Santa With Muscles.

  • Adam

Dunst was in interview with a vampire, a great movie, not to be confused with the shoot-my-self-in-the-head vampire diaries that is yet another contribution to decline of the vampire genre.
i remember when vampires where actually cool to watch in movies

  • Skikes

    girlfriend!? <3 = broken

  • Matt Chi

    Yea, Taylor Momsen is hot.

  • Nick N

You’re forgetting Tina Majorino (from Napoleon Dynamite and Big Love) was the little Girl in Waterworld with that super cryptic tattoo on her back.

  • Jonathan

All good examples. You may wanna do one with ladies of color. For example, Meagan Goode in the movie “Eve’s Bayou”.

  • Kate
  • Klektok

How about Fairuza Balk in Return to Oz?

  • JoeandMarysOtherSon

At the risk of sounding creepy, I’ve been crushing on Natalie Portman since the first time I saw The Professional. Still my all time favorite movie.

In my defense, the first time I saw it I was 14. USA played the hell out of that movie back in the summer of ’98.

  • grillz

you definitely forgot madeline zima. cute little girl in the nanny, hot-as-hell naked sex vamp in californication.

  • Alex

Momsen can be quite hot when she cleans up. Here this should win you the argument with your girlfriend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_-zuv2z3DM&feature=related
