Debate of the Day: Green Lantern Trailer – Amazing or Awful?

Published by at 11:00 am under Debate,Movies

We’ve all been waiting a long time for this, and now the Green Lantern trailer has finally crashed landed on Earth. Watch it above if you haven’t already.

I have to say, I’m really not impressed. I get the weird sci-fi universe that has to be created here because of the lore, but it’s trying too hard for an Iron Man vibe, and Reynold’s CGI suit looks pretty horrible, even in 1080p. I just have a hard time believing with all the space age materials we have access to these days, they couldn’t have crafted a physical suit that would look better than this. Watch the part at the end where his abs pulsate through the suit, it’s just plain weird.

The rest of it looks “action-packed” as they say, but for as much as I love him, I don’t think this was the right role for Reynolds, and I never have. This trailers reinforces that belief, but I supposed I should reserve judgement for the final product. And I think the backstory of the lantern and its villains is going to be just too batshit crazy for mainstream audiences.

What do you guys make of it?

    Hah, that looked pretty bad.

I’ll give the movie a chance, but the trailer is so-so. It definately is no Tron Lagacy trailer lol.

As much as I’d like to say, “There’s no way I’ll watch this”…I know I will eventually. But that trailer does not make me weep with joy.

I am so with you on this one. The costume looks terrible, Tron Legacy looks far, far better and Ryan Reynolds would have been better off in the Deadpool role. Ca va mal :(

The parts that didn’t look cheesy looked boring.

Is it just me or at then end when you see him in the whole costume does his waist look unnatually thin?

That suit is Batman and Robin Nipple-suit bad. Ryan Reynolds was a pretty bad choice. He makes a good wise-cracking smart ass, which Hal Jordan is not. Deadpool, if he had not been ruined in the Wolverine movie, would have been the perfect superhero role.

Both Awful and Amazing. I’m excited even though it’ll be pretty bad.

It may not be the best role for Ryan, but at least he’s a likable guy. Maybe that will help the film be likable?

On a side note, Paul, you used to feature a lot more trailers and supporting blogs (like the one above). It’s actually what got me hooked on this site. I could stand more of this kind of posting. :)

All told, he’d have probably been a much better fit as Barry Allen. At least the Flash was blond already!

Hmm…all that caught my notice was that the chick is Serena VanderWoodsen from Gossip Girl….that could just be enough to get me to go…

The movie looks entertaining… And I’m by no means a GL expert, but the DC animated film had him as a smart ass type until he had to man up and be the hero. The suit definitely needs work though.

As a GL fan I’m excited, but I really never envisioned Ryan Reynolds as Hal, maybe flash but not Hal. I’m sure when all is said and done, the movie will be just okay, as I’m sure both Thor and Capt. will be superhero movies to look for.

As far as the suit goes, I understand what the point is, and it makes sense. It’s just there is something wrong about it at the same time. I dunno, kinda torn on it.

Pretty much agree with everyone here. Looks like a pretty big meehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh to me. Definitely a renter (downloader). I also agree, the flash would have been a good role for ryan reynolds.

I hated the Green Goblin suit at first too. After watching Spiderman 6.5 times, it grew on me. I like the creature effects. Hope the story is good. Can’t wait.

I think the suit looks really strange, but there is a recut version of the trailer that makes it seem a bit more epic – no jokes or talking in this version
