Paul Rudd in a 1991 Super Nintendo Ad

Published by at 2:00 pm under Video Games,Videos

Before he was charming the pants off his (step) sister in Clueless, Paul Rudd actually got his acting start here, doing ads for Super Nintendo. Sure, the job only requires him to look convincingly amused by whatever game he’s imagining he’s playing on a giant screen, but I’d say he does a good job of it.

I like these kind of ads because it reminds me of a time where video games were sold on the experience of “Holy shit I’m playing a video game!” rather than the specifics of gameplay or plot or story or graphics. Our commercials may be “cooler” these days, but they’re missing some of that sense of awe captured on Paul Rudd’s face here.
