Five Movie Scenes that Make Me Want to Be a Father

Published by at 9:00 am under Lists,Movies

The subject has been brought up more than once:  parenthood.  I’m a married man.  I’m still a fairly young man but as I get older the decision to become a father is one that gnaws on me all the time.   I mean I love being an Uncle but being a father is a whole other story.   I just don’t think I’m ready for it.

However, there are times in my life where I really do want to become a dad.  And sometimes it’s from watching certain scenes in movies (and in life).

Here are five movie scenes that make me want to be a father…..

Field of Dreams – Hey Dad, Want to Have a Catch?

I mean how can you not want to cry watching this scene?  It’s nearly impossible.   What a great movie.   I’m pretty sure that any male whose got a dad went nuts on this scene.  I know I called my pop right after I saw this movie.

Big Daddy

I would say the peeing part is clearly the best.  However,  this is a great little montage of scenes that kind of makes me long to have a little kid.  Then again, they don’t really show much of the pooping and crying and non fun stuff so whatever.

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels – Big and Little Chris

“Mind your language.”  Point here is that no matter what fathers are into, they can still be good fathers and it’s fun as hell to watch.

The Rookie

There’s a scene in the movie where Dennis Quaid tells his son he’s become a major leaguer.  It’s definitely a tear jerker.  Even more awesome because it’s a true story.

Kramer vs. Kramer – French Toast

Fast forward to 5:50. This is one of the best scenes in the history of movies.  I seriously don’t want to ruin it for anyone but if it’s not a scene that makes a grown man cry then I don’t know what is.

The Pursuit of Happyness

It’s moments like these when you can appreciate the father and son dynamic.  I mean in this movie you don’t really want to be a father because you feel so bad for the child, but then again when things go the right way it’s so great that there’s a son to share these moments with.

You know what, though, you’re NEVER going to be “ready” to be a father. I’m pretty sure that no father ever thought of themselves as 100% fully capable of being a father when they decided to have kids. The only thing that can even get you close is actually having kids, is actually BEING a father. I say go for it. It’s awesome.

You’re never ready to be a father but it’s great and now I’m a grandfather and that’s pretty cool too.
    Good selection.

Not to get all sappy or anything, but there’s nothing Hollywood could produce that would ever measure up to the real thing.

Don’t get me wrong, I love hanging out with kids. However, I cannot fathom how having a kid would improve my life. I have the same philosophy on serious relationships with women.

In the end, the parts I enjoy are vastly overshadowed by the annoyances and loss of free time/personal freedom.

I respect that outlook on life. Having a kid is something you could never describe or appreciate until you do it. Seeing your kid experience and enjoy life outweighs anything you could do yourself. It it bigger than life and I wouldn’t trade all the free time/personal freedom in the world for it. But some days I do feel like that, but still wouldn’t trade.

I have become a father three months ago and I’ve loved every second of it, even with the “bad nights and working the next day” rushes, or the “he has a cold and I do not know what the hell to do” things. I am writting this with my baby sleeping between my arms and his little hand falling over the keyboard once in a while… and it feels so good. Love the page, greetings from Lima-Perú. (By the way
