Happy Halloween From Unreality!

Published by under Images

Happy Halloween everyone! I’ve been scouring the internet for awesome costumes, but I’ve only seen a few good ones so far. This one is my favorite, but I’m hoping as today is the actual holiday, we’ll see a bunch more by Monday. And I may have a special surprise photo post from my own Halloween weekend as well, as I think it’s something you’ll want to see. Stay tuned, and e-mail me (paultassi@gmail.com) any awesome costumes you’ve made, worn or seen this weekend!

Reminder: The Walking Dead Premieres This Weekend

Published by under Television,Videos

Before many of you get caught up with your Halloween-ing this weekend, I thought I’d throw out a quick reminder that Sunday night is the premiere of The Walking Dead on AMC, the Frank Darabont directed adaptation of the graphic novel that promises to be pretty damn awesome because well, it’s zombies, and it’s on AMC.

Above are the fan made credits for the film by Daniel M. Kanemoto, which as it turns out, are far cooler than the actual credits which have just debuted. I understand maybe wanting to shy away from the comic, but damn, the animated ones are awesome. At least use that song!

In any case, I’ll probably be posting my thoughts on the show next week, and I invite you to watch so you can discuss it with me then.

Boba Fett’s Invoice for Capturing Han Solo

Published by under Images,Movies

It’s one of those things that probably existed, but never actually has been talked about in Star Wars history. How much DID Boba Fett get for capturing Han Solo for Jabba the Hutt?

According to this invoice (created found by Brock Davis), 250,000 credits was the price tag. Seems reasonable, though as this is in a galaxy far far away, a long time ago, adjust for inflation it’s probably like 900 trillion credits at this point. I hope he set up a good IRA for his family before he fell into that Sarlac pit.

Awesome Organ Grinder Costume Acceptable in Minute Long Doses

Published by under Video Games,Videos

Any longer than that and it would probably start to drive you nuts.

I know I did a post yesterday that was ten costumes you need to see on video, but I have to jam in this one which I missed here today. It’s the Organ Grinder from Zelda, who plays that theme over and over again. Sure, this is at an anime expo rather than Halloween, but it’s exceptionally tough to separate good Halloween costume from cosplay on the internet, so whatever.

In other Halloween news, prepare to send us your best costumes for a post we’ll put up next week. If you’re doing something awesome and current, please send it over to paultassi@gmail.com, and we may feature it. If you think you’re too old for Halloween, that’s lame. I enjoy it more now than I ever did. Beer is better than candy!

Why Fable 3 is an Embarrassment to Video Games

Published by under Reviews,Video Games

I just beat Fable 3, one of my most anticipated games of the year, and much to my surprise, I absolutely loathed it. It’s strange, because in many ways it’s exactly like Fable 2, which I actually chose as my game of the year when it was released. So why then, do I hate, hate, hate this one so much?

I liked Fable 2 because it improved over its predecessor. It expanded customization, skills, the plot, everything was deeper, richer and had more thought put into it. Yes, it still had some issues to be resolved, but surely those would at least improve somewhat in the third chapter, right?

Fable 3 might be one of the laziest games I’ve ever played. There are virtually no differences in gameplay or features from the last game, the designers not bothering to add new weapon types or spells. Not bothering to make any of the jobs different from each other, any of the people different from each other, or any of the weapons different from each other. Baking pies is the same mechanic as forging iron, a nobleman is just as uninteresting in appearance and speech as a peasant, and a magic gun kills foes as easily as a regular one.

I feel so strongly about all the things that are wrong with this game, what you’re about to witness is literally the longest single post in Unreality history. It’s a rant of epic proportions clocking in at 2,800 words and counting. I detail each aspect of the game that infuriates me, and if you’re a fan of the series, or just come here because you like hearing me bitch about stuff, then boy, this is the post for you. Read on.

Debate of the Day: Too Old for Halloween?

Published by under Debate

A sneak preview.

It’s a debate even among my own circle of friends right now. Are we too old for Halloween? As a child, it’s one of the best days of the year, where you get tons of candy and everyone says how cute you look. As a college student, it’s one of the best days of the year, where you get tons of alcohol and you tell everyone ELSE how cute they look. But as that memory drifts further away, the question stands, how old is too old for Halloween?

I’m personally of the opinion that it’s a holiday that should be adopted by all ages. Here’s the schedule:

0-12 – Trick or treating

12-18 Jr. High and High School Halloween dances.

18-23 – Halloween college parties.

23-90 (no little kids) – Halloween bar night

23-90 (with little kids) – Dress up when you take them trick or treating.

Why? Because dressing up in costume is fun damnit, and every other Holiday out there is based on religious tradition rather than just plain fun. Please don’t launch into some story about the religious roots of Halloween about warding off demons because I really don’t care. As it stands, it’s not  religious holiday, and while Christmas and Easter and Hanukkah and all that can be fun, it’s always about something else as well, which is totally cool, but we just need a time to let loose and be goofy or sexy or badass or whatever you want to be free of judgment, race, religion or creed.

So that’s my pitch, what do you say?

A Gallery of Great Group Costume Ideas

So Halloween is upon us, and I’m readying my awesome costume as we speak. Many of you are scrambling at the last minute for something, so I thought I’d post a bit of inspiration for you at this late hour.

Group costumes are often cooler than any one person’s get-up, so if you can correctly coordinate with your friends, you’ll have the best posse around. Sure a lot of this stuff takes planning, but a few of these you could probably throw together pretty quickly.

Check out the full gallery after the jump, which contains costumes from all over the entertainment spectrum.

Showing a Cool Transformation of a Pumpkin

Published by under Images

Since Halloween is coming up this weekend I figured I would leave you guys with a little fun gallery before you set off to go wear your ridiculous costumes and eat copious amounts of junk food.

But if there’s something I don’t want you to forget it’s Halloween tradition.  Remember, there are some people out there who do a kick ass job of decorating and making the holiday more special.  Let us appreciate these people.

Speaking of which, I caught these amazing photos of something doing a pretty sweet pumpkin carving….
