Ever Wonder What a Galactic Credit Actually Looks Like?

Credits are always talked about in Star Wars as the dominant form of currency, but are rarely seen. You would imagine that in the future, paper money would cease to exist (and maybe it does in that universe), but if not, here is one artist’s interpretation of what a Galactic Credit might look like.

A few notes. How many “founding fathers” can they really go through here to put on their various bills and coins? There’s Vader and the Emperor sure, but who else would get a face? Grand Moff Tarkin? Darth Maul? Count Dooku? That’s really most of the top figureheads right there.

Also, were they in such a rush to print money that they decided to go with the unfinished second Death Star as a back image? That’s like putting the Lincoln Memorial on the back of our money with scaffolding all around it.

I hate to correct you, but Star Wars is of course stated to be set a long time ago and not in the future.

That being said, I imagine the intent of calling the currency “credits” was so they can eliminate paper money. Generally the use of the term “credit” (as in credit cards and store credit) deals with a lack of actual physical currency.

As a monopoly, the Empire has a vested interest in NOT using physical currency, since the use of credit ensures that citizens must purchase items from or make deals with the Empire. If they had physical cash, then trade between citizens (maybe even with the Rebels!) would be much easier.

Not only was Star Wars set in a time long ago, I saw these at *least* 3 days ago (which makes this old news!).

Shame on you for bringing us cool pictures, Mr. Tassi.

    Ummm…

Deathstar was a secret weapon, both of them. It would not be on the money.
