One of the most puzzling moments of this year’s E3 for me was the demo of “Kinect Sports” or whatever its called, which is Microsoft’s Wii Sports ripoff, three years too late. I understand most of the games I suppose, but the track game that was demonstrated, left me scratching my head. Who would ever want to play this, ever?

Essentially, you sprint in place, and Kinect recognizes this, and your avatar sprints on the screen. Occasionally, you are supposed to jump over hurdles, but even the professionals who made the game, can’t get that to work more than half the time. The fact that someone would want to play a game sprinting in place, as opposed to say, I don’t know, killing evil aliens with a chainsaw/assault rifle, is stunning to me. Even if you DID enjoy running, why would you choose to do this over just going outside, and racing your friend down the street?

It was awkward enough at E3, but this new video which has Japanese models playing the game is even more awkward, because the poor one girl’s Avatar doesn’t even start moving until halfway through the race, despite her best efforts.

Kinect will bomb, mark my words. Hopefully they’ll learn their lesson and we’ll get a new console out of the this disaster at some point.
