New Starcraft II Trailer Gets Me Unreasonably Excited for Next Week
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_E83GfWM-A
Alright, so I don’t exactly show straight up trailers on the site that much anymore, but it’s STARCRAFT II! I’m making an exception. Starcraft even had great cinematics ten years ago, so I would expect that tradition to continue with the new game. So far, they look pretty damn awesome, and the recounting of Kerrigan’s desertion to the Zerg brought a tear to my eye. Well not really, but it was well done.
I sort of completely forget what the plot of the Brood War was. I remember discovering a Protoss/Zerg hybrid in the last level, and finding out Lt. Duran was probably Xel’Naga. That was pretty epic.
Starcraft II drops July 27th. Buy it and then you can kick my ass online because as much as I love this game, I am fully terrible at it.

Please don’t think I am trolling here. Admittedly, I have never played a blizzard game my entire life and Anybody who regularly visits here knows you cannot go a day without uttering starcraft or star wars. But am I the only one here thinking starcraft 2 is nothing more than another addicting blizzard game?
Every time I see someone play WOW, I almost see them like game junkies. Now I am a gamer who plays all sorts of games but games that are nothing but grind and more grind, are anything but. Normally I wouldn’t put RTS games in the grind genre, but this is blizzard, it might as well be heroin.
Maybe I’m 1000% wrong since I have never touched any of Blizzard’s stuff, on the other hand I never have confused addiction for fun.
Again no trolling, I’m just perplexed about a game surrounding by so much hype other games normally would have such skepticism.
IF Blizzard can do anything right, then it’s doing awesome trailers!
And here they are proving that again!
@MR: WoW is just like anything else in life. It can be addicting, but that doesn’t mean it always is. You can be addicted to sex, but that doesn’t stop people.
I’ve played WoW since a little over a year after it’s release, and played EQ for about two years prior. I’ve never lost a job, lost significant amounts of sleep, broken a relationship, or anything that would qualify as a junkie. Moderation, man, moderation. I like beer but that doesn’t mean every night of the week I’m trashed. I like movies but that doesn’t mean all I do is watch them nonstop. You can enjoy things without going overboard. Please don’t insult fans of any hobby by assuming they’re junkies.
In the four years that I’ve played the game I’ve stopped playing for periods of time, multiple times. No problem, no withdrawal. I don’t come back to the game because I need to, but because I wanted to. Because the game is fun. I have come borderline to feeling the game was turning into a second job, but I realize that was MY fault, not the game. Like I said, not addicted, just feeling like the game was turning into a chore. So you know what I did? I took a break.
But, how about playing music? I’m a musician, and a few years back I played in a band. We started as a hobby, something to do after school once or twice a week. Then we started practicing three or four times a week. Soon enough the hobby became a chore, feeling like a job. I practiced guitar parts in almost all of my free time, because I felt like I needed to. Eventually I realized the band was a second job, and not one that I wanted to focus all of my time in. So you know what I did? I took a break.
There are people who can’t handle moderation, I’ve had guild mates that sacrificed their entire social life just to play WoW. I’ve seen musicians who spend every night of the week at the local tavern, either playing their music or listening to others. Meanwhile their wife and two year old daughter sit at home, night after night. You can be a junkie to anything, but that doesn’t mean you have to.
Your view towards Blizzard games is very similar to that of any non-gamer looking inwards. Try the games, you’ll see they’re unbelievably fun, and that’s what keeps you coming back. Not an addiction, the enjoyment. After playing some SC, or War3, or WoW, take a trip down to your local Go-Kart track on a saturday. Or catch a local softball match. Look at something unfamiliar from the outside-in. Go-Kart enthusiasts, minor league athletes, musicians, any hobby that can be enjoyed socially will look crazy from the outside. It’s all about context.
Seriously though, try any of Blizzard’s games. There is a very good reason many people swear by Blizzard. It’s not a magic carrot on a stick, it’s not the next fix waiting down the road. It’s the quality and fun. Blizzard’s games are amazingly fun, and amazingly polished. Quality can do amazing things.
TL;DR version: Moderation is key to everything.
@SirEdward
