“That Guy” Actor of the Week: Seymour Cassel

Published by at 2:00 pm under Columns

Seymour Cassel

Don’t ask me why but for years I always mixed this guy up with John Astin.   But Seymour Cassel is his own man.  And I happen to really like Cassel.  Turns out the guy has been on screen since 1959 and has over 190 credits to his name.   I remember first seeing him in the movie Rushmore but then he seemed to keep popping up all over the place.

It’s not that Cassel has ever really had any leading role but the man just winds up in movies.  What I like about him most is that he never does a bad job and nearly all of his characters are likable.

The guy is pushing 76-years-old and he’s in 6 upcoming movies.   You gotta love it.  I’ve shared a good clip of Cassel after the jump

I had no clue that he was nominated for best supporting actor in 1965.

This guy is classic in Beer League as the crude, racist team veteran

“Quit eyeballin me tough guy. When I was in the joint I used to fuck guys bigger than you.”

good choice. I’ve probably seen that guy a thousand times over the years but never gave him much thought. I guess that’s the point of theses articles, huh?

Great actor. He was in a 1971 movie by John Cassavetes opposite Gena Rowlands called Minnie and Moskowitz which remains one of my favorite rom-coms to this day.
