Drunk History on Memorial Day

Published by Madison under Videos

drunk_history.jpg

Not to take anything away from the men and women that died fighting for our country – my heart goes out to their friends and families and they should always be remembered – but Memorial Day always gets me excited.  It marks the beginning of summer (at least from a social perspective), it’s a Monday that we don’t have to work, and there’s always good barbecues and drinking in which we can partake.

Speaking of drinking, you can enjoy a collection of pretty funny “Drunk History” videos after the jump.  They’re very well done.  Enjoy the vids, and enjoy your Memorial Day.

A New Batch of Star Wars Motivators

Published by Nattyb under Movies

Star Wars

I have a confession to make to all of you.  Like most people that write for a living from time to time I suffer from what I’m not sure I’d consider writer’s block but more like a brainfart.  I sit here at the computer trying to think about a topic or I’ll spend time looking for cool pictures that you guys will like and absolutely nothing comes to mind.

Today is one of those days.   And then you realize that you have this entire well of stuff that you know is an automatic gem.  I have yet to see a Star Wars motivational poster that I didn’t like.

And after doing this search I think I’m still at a 100% success rate.  You just can’t go wrong with these things.  Most of these I haven’t seen and I hope you haven’t either….

The Final Countdown: Arcade Evolution, Michael Bay’s Ninja Turtles and Hillcoat’s Red Dead Movie

Published by Paul Tassi under Final Countdown

Go here to see the evolution of the arcade.

What ever happened to arcades? I remember dumping legions of quarters into them growing up, but all of a sudden, once I could play everything at home for free, they became a lot less appealing. But the DDR machines still kind of rock.

Unreality’s Facebook page is evolving!

Life Imitates South Park

Oh man. I’m not sure what the occasion for such a gathering like this. Maybe it’s some sort of convention, or maybe they’ve all turned out to protest the sun, but either way, it’s fairly unnerving.

I don’t subscribe to the Eric Cartman philosophy that “Gingers don’t have souls” as I have had many red-haired, freckled friends who do in fact, indicate they have souls, but put this many of them in one place, and I start to automatically get suspicious.

We should probably just give them Mohammad.

The Things We Take for Granted

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Video Games

next-magazine.jpg

I like this picture, and it’s subtitle “Yes, this is an actual PC game screenshot,” because it reminds me not to take the game’s we have today for granted, and at the same time, gives me hope for the future.

Back in 1997, this Unreal screenshot was revolutionary,  today, even the Wii can render graphics at least twice that good (ha ha). But seriously, for how much we bitch about games, we often forget where we came from, and just how much technology has progressed.

On that same note, I really hope that 13 years from now, we’ll be looking back and laughing at our current generation of games as well. What does the future hold? Photorealism? Total immersion? I don’t know, but if it’s going to make our games now, look like that screenshot above, it’s got to be something pretty impressive.

The Evolution of Nicolas Cage’s Hair

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Movies

cage-hair.jpg

Nicolas Cage is perhaps the only actor working today who is best known for his hair. Some actors have faces, some have talent, but Cage stands alone, with his hair as the defining part of nearly all of his roles.

Above you see his hair timeline over the past X amount of years. I know I’ve seen most of these movies, but even I won’t profess to know what each of them are. Now we play the fun little game where you try to guess as many as you can, and we solve the puzzle together.

Where’s his Falcon Hair?

The Red Dead Redemption Journal: Day 9

Published by Paul Tassi under Reviews,Video Games

red5.jpg

I thought that this would be a three journal series on Red Dead Redemption, but as it turns out, the Wild West isn’t that big of a place, so here I am on Day 9 with not much else left to do.

That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy my time with the game, and don’t think it was worth the money. I did, and I do (err, hardly any game is REALLY worth $60, but you get the idea), and it was a great experience with a new genre of game I’d rarely ventured into before.

As it turns out, the Wild West is a pretty awesome place, especially when it’s imagined by Rockstar. I was consistently blown away by the landscape of the game, which encompasses all the coolest parts of the Old West. There are the dusty border towns where random sociopaths want to dual you on the streets. There’s Mexico, where the government is constantly battling rebels trying to overthrow it. And there’s the New Frontier, full of Indians and bears waiting to eat you. The bears, not the Indians.

How to Imitate a Chicken

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Television

the-chicken.jpg

Judging from this post yesterday, it turns out a lot of you are big Arrested Development fans like myself, as you should be.

Therefore, you should enjoy this diagram, which explains the various (wrong) ways to imitate a chicken, which is in my opinion, one of my favorite recurring jokes from the show. I’d post a clip of it here, but Fox = asshats and wouldn’t dare let me put up thirty seconds of their precious copyrighted show.

So just use the diagram and imagine it for yourselves. “Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?”

Update: Video found! (after the jump) Hurry, before it’s blasted from the internet. Thanks Irfan!

Unreal Movie Review: MacGruber

Published by Madison under Movies,Reviews

macgruber-movie-image-will-forte.jpg

In all honesty, I had been pretty excited about the MacGruber movie for quite some time.  I don’t think the SNL sketch on which it is based is unbelievably funny or anything; my excitement for the movie had more to do with who was involved in making it.  Judging by the box office numbers, many people dismissed MacGruber, probably thinking that stretching an SNL sketch out to a 90-minute feature film was a bad idea.  It’s not like there isn’t a precedent.  As it turns out, MacGruber isn’t much like the sketch at all – it’s really more of a spoof movie than anything.  But was it funny?

“That Guy” Actor of the Week: Seymour Cassel

Published by Nattyb under Columns

Seymour Cassel

Don’t ask me why but for years I always mixed this guy up with John Astin.   But Seymour Cassel is his own man.  And I happen to really like Cassel.  Turns out the guy has been on screen since 1959 and has over 190 credits to his name.   I remember first seeing him in the movie Rushmore but then he seemed to keep popping up all over the place.

It’s not that Cassel has ever really had any leading role but the man just winds up in movies.  What I like about him most is that he never does a bad job and nearly all of his characters are likable.

The guy is pushing 76-years-old and he’s in 6 upcoming movies.   You gotta love it.  I’ve shared a good clip of Cassel after the jump
