15 “Better” Hand Drawn Movie Posters from Abroad

Movie Posters

Many times when movies get released in other countries you don’t see the original movie posters that the studio or marketing companies dish out.  Mainly because the language is different.  In addition, in other countries that don’t have big budgets, movie posters are actually hand drawn.

Honestly, I think it’s pretty awesome.  It gives the poster a vintage quality and a “life” to it that I think we sometimes miss in our more photographic movie posters.  Granted many of the hand drawings suck, but in some cases I actually think they are better than the original.   And I’m not referring to the overall artistry quality.  I again refer to the life or “personality” of the poster.

I’ve chosen 15 hand drawn posters that I think might be better than the original movie posters.

    Bizarre… such hideous art!
…and they’ve added guns into almost every poster!

Amazing how much better the hand drawn ones are. You can actually look at them for a minute, whereas the ones in the states require just a second of your attention.

I like the one for Man’s Best Friend. I think it’s the shrieking cat that does it for me.

i actually thought most of the hand drawn ones looked like shit to be honest. drunken monkey, the protector, catch the heat and king kong were the only ones i thought actually looked better than the original.

The Jackie Chan one looks pretty awesome, but I wonder why the foreign movie poster people never hire anyone older than a kindergartner to draw these?

What are you talking about “don’t have budgets, so they are actually hand drawn” It’s most expensive to get a DECENT artist to hand draw a poster than it is to get some guy to stick it through photoshop. Drew Struzan who hand painted the new Star Wars trilogy, Harry Potter and Indiana Jones artwork gets a six fugure sum. Do you really think someone gets that to stick some text over a photo??? By the way the Protector, painted by Greek artist Chris Achilleos is better than that awful photo: most of the others look like they were painted for school projects! lol.
