The Bar For MLB 2K10 Could Not Be Any Lower

MLB 2K10 comes out next week and while I personally don’t think baseball translates to the medium of video games very well, the bar for MLB 2K10 really could not be any lower. I’m curious to see how the game does considering that last year’s edition of MLB 2K is one of the most-complained about, glitch-filled games to ever be released. Really, 2K Sports could simply repackage Bases Loaded for the NES and it would have been an improvement.
From what I’ve seen of MLB 2K10, it looks like the batting stances of each player are depicted pretty accurately and the game itself looks decent enough. But perhaps most important in any sports game is the gameplay itself, and just a few glitches can totally ruin the experience. Take a look at how egregious some of MLB 2K9′s glitches are below, and for the sake of 2K Sports, let’s hope they’ve improved the latest edition.
As an aside, what were your favorite video baseball games? Are there any current ones that are worth playing? My personal favorite was Baseball Stars; the gameplay and customization were tops.
Outfielder takes his sweet time picking up the ball:

Um, out of the basepaths?
Not my problem; you pick it up:
This must be infuriating:
What a spaz:
Are the Cubs epileptic?
Uh, you’re gonna have to move:
This one takes the cake:

The whole trying-to-be-hip-by-abbreviating-numbers-for-letters-and-letters-for-numbers is getting ridiculous. ’2K10′ is about as pointless and redundant as it gets.
I would have to second your vote for Baseball Stars! Great game! I think at the time it came out I painstakingly recreated the entire roster of my beloved Oakland Athletics.
Having been away from the consoles for the entire modern generation I really can’t recommend any current games for you. However, 3D Baseball Slugger for the iPhone is a good time. It is just hitting, but the game mechanics are really well implemented (Tilt to aim your swing, tap to swing.) and it has a fun graphical style as well. Pluss you can have home run derby’s against other real players over 3G or WiFi. Certainly worth checking out.
i remember being so excited to get 2k9 because it had lincecum on the cover and i wanted to get the cover signed by him. then i read about all the glitches and thought it’d be better to invest in getting something cheaper signed
Really the only baseball video game I’ve ever enjoyed was Base Wars.
i heard the mario baseball was great, and i think i’m going to get that instead of MLB 2010. 2K9 was so horribly glitchy that my video game-rage came out full force.
have you heard about the contest for 2010? the first person to pitch a perfect game wins a million bucks. i take that as the glitches are still present. it’s hard to pitch a perfect game when you’re unable to control your outfield and the game refuses to let you do anything rational…. it’s so unpredictable, i don’t have high hopes for it either.
the graphics and mannerisms have been great, but they need to work on the game-play aspect more.
Baseball is lousy to watch, I can only imagine how much worse it is to play on a video game. I actually think the glitches are there to entertain bored gamers- I’d need something interesting to keep me playing that sack of crap.
@ EJ
Disagree about watching baseball, but that’s a pretty funny point about the glitches.
@ chelsea
I DID see that promotion, yes. I wonder if anyone will actually pull it off.
Dusty Diamonds All-Star Softball on NES. Probably my favorite sports game ever.
