Looking into the Past From the Present: A Gallery
I’m sure you guys know the genre of picture where people take an image, put it in front of something in the foreground, take a picture and when you see the photo it looks like a complete picture. I wish there was a name for this particular genre but I think you all know what I’m talking about.
Well in that light comes a project I thought was really cool. People decided to take pictures of the past of certain locations, like a road in a town. They then took those past photos and put them in the foreground so that when the new picture was taken you could see the past and present acting simultaneously.
I can’t explain myself much further. You’ll have to see it to understand but I think these pictures are awesome.
We’d like to thank Jason Powell for these photos.

There IS a name for a certain subset of these types of pictures – sleeveface. These would be the ones involving record sleeves or CD covers.
I like these ones too though.
Nice, thanks for the reference Bert.
You might want to take a look at an iPhone app currently in development for this sort of thing: http://lookbackmaps.net/index.php?page=blog&blog_id=12
Same idea, but tied into a site that overlays old photos onto current locations
