Dolphin Assassins Yield the Greatest Movie Poster and Tagline Ever?

Before you start saying, “Ohh this is so fake, and totally Photoshop,” let me just tell you, NO. IT. IS. NOT. And better yet? IT WAS NOMINATED FOR TWO OSCARS. I kid you not. Yes, best music and best sound still count as Oscars. Since it’s 1973, I’m just going to assume only like, five other movies came out that year.
Here’s the synopsis, and I’m pretty sure this is in no way meant to be a comedy.
“Dr Jake Terrell, who has been training a pair of dolphins for many years, has had a breakthrough. He has taught his dolphins to speak and understand English, although they do have a limited vocabulary. When the dolphins are stolen, he discovers they’re to be used in an assassination attempt. Now he is in a race to discover who is the target, and where the dolphins are, before the attempt is carried out.”
It’s like Free Willy, but with terrorism! And George C. Scott! I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!

“Unwittingly” is the operative word here. A guy trains a dolphin to kill the President? No thanks. Oh, but it was unwittingly? I’m in!
Also starring Edward Hermann and Paul Sorvino! This was the movie Polanski was scouting for when Sharon Tate was killed by the Manson Family!? Weird.
I’ve seen this, it’s actually pretty good. George C. Scott classes up just about anything!
I’ve seen it too. Great movie! Hilarious.
Directed by Mike Nichols.
Written by Buck Henry.
They also made The Graduate.
It was a great movie. The dolphins learned to talk. (simple sentences) like “Fa loves Pa” “Fa” is the dolphin and “Pa” is George C Scott.
Well, dude, it was a sci-fi movie. And a damned good one, too. And sad. I cried. I still remember.
“Pa…! Paaaa….!”
You should watch it.
You kids don’t know what you’re missing.
Faaa!!!!

@Superior Cynic?
Is that why their article went up an hour and a half after mine?
during this films time the movie was all hype, thanks to the popularity of flipper
Looks like a good movie compared to some of the bombs last year!
Actually, the movie was pretty good. Was a staple of the afternoon movies on one of the networks for a while – remember THOSE?
A ridiculous plot that made a decent movie. I do remember watching it as an afternoon movie and digging on it.
Is that Johnny Cash on the cover?

I have childhood memories of this being a great movie. I’m sure as kids, my sister and I were way more in to talking dolphins than the political aspect.
I can still bring my now >35 year-old sister to near tears by lamenting “Fa loves Pa” is a squeaky voice.
