The Morning Link: More Films to Go 3D

Published by under Morning Link

Movie studios are continuing to jump on the “3D-will-instantly-make-our-movies-better” bandwagon, even if those films were never actually filmed to be in 3D.

The latest rumored 2D to 3D change? The last two Harry Potter films, which are really just the last Harry Potter Book, Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows

It remains to be seen what will come of this but check out some others that are slated to peer out of the screen

It’s been a long way for the guy who is actually funny and the guy who clearly made a deal with the devil.  But the guys at Pajiba have chronicled their stories quite nicely in their article.

I think we all know that Elvis was good at moving the pelvis, but did you know he was also a great spanker?  I guess you learn something new everyday.

Captions anyone?

Analyzing the Physics of Mega Shark

Published by under Images,Movies

We love our infographics here at Unreality, but this is one my favorites, as it pertains to one of the greatest movies ever made: Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. If you missed this epic occaision, the title tells you everything you need to know.

The infographic in question is breaking down the physics of one particular scene where the 40M long Megashark leaps out of the water and grabs a plane, 1500M in the air, which is really quite the extraordinary feat when you do the math.

I’ve attached the trailer for this awesome movie after the jump if you still have no idea what I’m talking about.

Traditional Japanese Pocket Monsters

Published by under Images,Video Games

(you’re really going to want to click to enlarge)

And here all this time I thought that Pokemon were ALREADY drawn in traditional Japanese artwork style, but here I go thinking Manga is the only historical art style of Japan. Some awesome artist whose name I totally can’t pronounce did this series of close to 200 Pokemon in a wicked cool art style you might find hanging in the halls of ancient Chinese emporers.

I stopped playing after Gold and Silver, so I don’t know some of these weird ones, but they’re all pretty damn cool. Any fans out there know how many Pokemon they’re up to these days? It’s gotta be over 500.

I’ve posted three more pages just like this one after the jump, all of which you can click on to see the full size version of the art.

The Mass Effect 2 Journal: Day 1

mass-effect25.jpg

Words can’t really describe just how excited I was for this day. Outside of the infinite replay value of Super Smash Bros. and Halo, the original Mass Effect is one of my favorite games of all time, and I didn’t even really like playing it.

What I mean is, I love Mass Effect in SPITE of the fact it’s a video game, as I mostly felt like I was playing an exceptionally well-written twenty hour long movie. To me, the game controls were clunky, the leveling and equipment systems were a mess, but it was all taking place within such a rich, beautiful and fascinating universe, that I didn’t care one bit.

Like many big franchises churning out sequels, Mass Effect 2 had a big long checklist of improvements to be made over the first game, and seven hours in, I can already see how many lingering issues have been fixed, though the “game” aspect of things still does need work in areas.

But first, we have to set up where we are. After saving the galaxy from the apocalyptic Reaper threat, Commander Shepard finds the Normandy blown out of the sky by an unknown vessel. Before things completely break apart, he’s able to rush his crew to the lifeboats, but he doesn’t get out in time.

He wakes up and is told that he has been dead, for two years, and a mysterious corporation has exhausted all of their resources to literally bring him back to life via the “Lazarus Project.” The reason? The Reapers are still out there, and the Alliance doesn’t care, so Shepard is the only man that can stop them. However, the corporation he now works for is likely to have some ulterior motives along the way.

The iPad Makes MadTV Relevant Again

Published by under News,Videos

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsjU0K8QPhs&feature=player_embedded

The internet is all aflame for the most part about how much Apple’s new iPad sucks. Though a die hard minority are enthused, most of us view it as nothing but an iPhone on steroids, rather than a keyboardless, touchscreen iMac like we all thought it could be. And the name? Well, that video should clear up why THAT was a terrible idea.

I’m split on all the hatred, as I do think this is a step forward in a lot of areas. I mean, what science fiction movie haven’t you seen where people aren’t carrying around touchscreen “datapads” that look like this? But it’s just lacking so many features, multitasking (the real dealbreaker), a front OR rear camera, flash support and it’s all still on AT&T’s shitty 3G network.

We wanted a real computer, and what we got was really just a toy. And it CAN’T EVEN MAKE PHONE CALLS. I love my iPhone, but there’s no way I’m buying something like this until it becomes a full-on netbook replacement. And I think it will be, the first gen of ANY new product are always lacking in features. Once the iPad gets them (and hopefully changes its name), I do believe it just might revolutionize everything the way it was supposed to.

10 Amazing Japanese Video Game Commercials

Published by under Video Games,Videos

zelda1.jpg

I’ve written before that I’m cautiously fascinated with Japanese culture.  Some of their commercials are enough to give me a seizure with all the flashing lights and colors, and more often than not, I feel like the images on the screen have absolutely nothing to do with the product being sold.  To call it an assault on the senses would be an understatement.

Japanese video game commercials are a bit tamer, but there’s also no shortage of weird.  Unlike the commercials for video games we have here in the States – which usually just feature a bunch of clips from cutscenes – the Japanese ones feature dancing, ridiculous characters, and all sorts of WTF.  Have fun with 10 of the most ridiculously awesome Japanese video game commercials I could find.

An Open Letter to Chris Owen: The Shermanator

Published by under Columns,Editorials

Chris Owen

Dear Chris,

On behalf of the staff here at Unreality I’d just like to commend you on your tremendous success in the acting world.  Most people who are true film critics might not give you much credit for being a conventionally successful actor, but I’m here to set them straight.  When the ad went out for the movie Angus in 1995 (for a very dorky looking sidekick) you didn’t turn your head the other way.  You merely said, “dammit I’m gonna be the best ugly, weird, yet lovable sidekick in the whole wide world.”

And then four years went by.  You had been drifting along taking small roles here and there.   But alas, another casting call ad went out.  “Looking for ridiculous gawky, red haired freak to play a guy who everyone will instantly hate in this coming of age teen movie called American Pie.”   You took that ad and ran with it.  The Shermanator was born.

And since then?  Since that time you have milked every possible mile out of that character imaginable.  It got you into Van Wilder.  It got you into every single American Pie sequel known to man.  It’s gotten you into Hollywood parties.  And it’s probably gotten you laid more times than you should have.

So Chris.  Again, on behalf of our staff we’d like to congratulate you for making a living onscreen, a feat that most of us will never accomplish.  You have stretched one character into a career more than any actor on the planet.  Well done sir.  Well done.

Love,

Nattyb

20 Funny and Strange Celebrity Caricatures

Published by under Images

Celebrity Caricatures

I’ve always been fascinated by caricatures.  I just find it really cool how an artist can take certain features of one’s face, blow them completely out of proportion yet at the same time have the picture resemble that person very accurately.  Or at least that’s what a good artist will do.

An artist by the name of Anthony Geoffroy has decided to use his weird sense of creativity and use it on celebrities.   Some of these you will recognize instantly (mainly because there’s a label on them) but some of these  you really might have to work hard to realize who they are.

I’m not gonna tell you but if you want to know, comment and we’ll reveal them.

Here are 20 funny and strange celebrity caricatures
