20 Questions Magic Website Genie Can Freaking READ MINDS
So last night I discovered the Akinator, a website that has been programmed to be the world’s greatest 20 questions guesser of all time. This may sound lame, but TRY IT and I gurantee it will blow your mind. The very first game I picked Boondock Saints‘ Paul Smecker, and I thought after question 20 there was no WAY he’d get it. Wrong. Liara T’soni, Dogmeat, Dillon from Predator, THIS THING IS ALIVE.
In fact, I have yet to beat the damn thing. It took 30 questions to get Demetri Martin, but still, unless you’re picking like Nazi Solider #42 from Saving Private Ryan, it’s pretty damn hard to beat this thing with any reasonable picks. I was playing around with it and a few of you on TWit
The best part? It’s also and iPhone app, which is the most deserving $2 I’ve ever forked over. Whoever built this thing is a goddamn genius.

Fooled it with the main characters from The Left Hand of Darkness (fantastic sci-fi novel from the 60s, Hugo award winning)

Got it with Harry Lockhart, Robert Downey Jr’s character from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Fooled it with Pluto the Dog, and Reepicheep from Narnia. I am not impressed.
It got Rampage Jackson. It got thrown off on some actor questions but then it asked if he was a fighter. Game over.
tried to beat it with Wikus van der Merwe from District 9. Once he asked me about aliens I knew I’d lost.
I beat it with Rheya, the wife of George Clooney in Solaris.
I beat it with Diesel from the Stephanie Plum Novels. It was my second try, the first one it guessed Lich King.
@Sverrir – good choice. That’s a great book, I’ve liked everything from Ursula K. LeGuin I’ve read.
I actually noticed it guessed someone that was contradictory to one of the questions that it asked.
I was thinking of a local sportsman here in NZ and it asked if he was assigned the number 10 in his team , I answered no and after a couple more questions it came up with Dan carter of the All Blacks who plays no 10 .
After another 10 questions (40) it at least got the sport right , hehe
I beat it w/ The Boy from The Road. It started asking about movies and children in a way that suggested Twilight and Harry Potter, so I thought it was going to have me figured out eventually.
Got it with Dwight Yoakham. He’s a singer/actor and that fucked him all up.
I beat it with David Madison from Alligator. He guessed Keanu Reeves in Speed.
Beat it with Sandy Lyle from Along Came Polly
It guessed Edge Maverick from Star Ocean 4, but then I stumped it with Harry the humphead wrasse from Feeding Frenzy 2.
I beat him with Kitana from Mortal Kombat; he guessed Mileena.
Amazing! What a great way to blow through the rest of my afternoon (and not work, haha)
Beat him with the singer Adele but he did guess Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory.
Finally fooled it with Julia from 1984, it came up with Irene Adler from Sherlock Holmes.
He got Gonzo from the muppets but them I stumped him twice with characters from Chicken Run (Rocky and then Ginger). Wasn’t even close on the two of them.
I got it with Hans Gruber from Die Hard.
Managed to beat it with Carmine Falcone from Batman, which I wasn’t expecting given that Falcone has been in one of the mainstream motion pictures at this point.

Nailed him on author Pat Conroy (he guessed Gore Vidal & John Irving before giving up) and Bobbi Mohan-Culp (the Anna Gasteyer character from SNL).
took it about 30 questions to get casey from chuck. i wonder if the program can learn from us asking it stuff?
well it figured out Buffy in 20.
but took about 25 to get Eliza Dushku (actress who played faith).
got Bart simpson in 11 questions.
took about 36 – 38 or so to get Stephen Colbert (2 wrong guesses b4 it got it right).
It got Mr. Pink, but it did not get Tsui Chik (Simon in U.S. version) from Black Mask.
This is pretty similar to the 20Q hand held game, which is surprisingly good at guessing objects.

Holy! I thought mine would be difficult to guess but no, he got it easily. That was ridiculous!
i first tried brad renfro and it took a couple tries after giving me edward norton.
it was completely stumped by Clayton Kershaw, starting pitcher for the Dodgers…. this thing sucks.
It got Jesse Custer from the comic Preacher.
It also got Hiro Protagonist from the novel Snow Crash. I gotta admit, that impressed me.

He got my first one of Artemis Fowl and my second of Dylan Moran and third of Admiral Ackbar. Crazy.
It got Mordecai from Borderlands and Death From Discworld pretty quickly but I stumped it with The Phantom Limb.
It guessed Simon Phoenix (Demolition Man)

Gollum (LOTR)
but I stumped it with Benny Blanco from the Bronx (Carlito’s Way) =p
Got it with Ransom [Cosmic Trilogy] but it guessed Gaius Marius in under 20 questions, which was amazing.

My wife tried Phineas from the animated cartoon series. She “lied” when she accidentely answered “no” to the question “does he have red hair?”. 20th question he repeated his question, and she did “yes”. Bingo…
I won with Mad Dog from the movie Hard Boiled.

But damn, it knows much from european stuff as well…
It took the computer 30 questions to guess Erwin Schrödinger. Still, that’s pretty impressive.
Didn’t guess Dean Martin. I’m so bitterly, bitterly disappointed…

Not Impressed. I pick the most famous bulgarian singer and after 40 questions it was not even close. IT WAS NOT EVEN ON THE LIST OF 30+ extra artists.

I fooled it with lyra from his dark materials, mach rider from the game and punky brewster.
I beat it with Midge Ure, lead singer of Ultravox in the 80′s. Not the least bit impressed

I decided to try it out and chose Percy Jackson. Around question nine he asked if my character fights with a sword. Yup. Then question ten says, “Is you character linked with the sea?”
o_O This thing is good. Halfway through with only broad questions and it still manages to pretty much get it.
…It even shows a picture of him o_O

at first i picked hayley from paramore and he guessed it then alice from twilight guessed again then chris from everybody hates chris guessed i finally beat it with many santos from degrassi
O.O im pulling my hair out right now!!! it got EVERYTHING!!! i did stump it with Lassie though for some reason and a very obscure hero named Morgon from the Riddle Master trilogy. i dont know why it didnt get Lassie though! also i stumped it with Ren Sohma from Fruits Basket! it got every other fruits basket character but that one. and it too a lot more questions to get Gwin the Martin from the Inkeart trilogy but it finally got it. i introduced some new ones though. this thing is GENIUS!!!!
Use an obscure character in its database, and it can’t guess it.
I used a character from the movie Ironclad, and it was stumped.
I completely had it with Marina from The Pebble and the Penguin.
