Avatar Tries to Sway the Academy with Technological Shock and Awe

It’s going to be at least another week or so until Avatar surpasses Titanic as the number one movie of all time, but now another goal looms on the horizon: the Oscars. Titanic won 11 Oscars in ’97 and Avatar is hoping to crank out something close to that come awards time this year.
This featurette above is meant to show the Academy how the Na’vi are actually actors giving performances, rather than marionettes mimicking humans. We’ve seen a few BTS videos like this in the past for Avatar, but this has the most facial expression comparision shots I’ve seen yet, which always, always blow me away.
I’m not quite sure how Avatar will fare at the Oscars this year. The Globes gave it Best Picture AND Director, but the Academy is notoriously moody. I would think Cameron will win Director, but Picture is another animal altogether.

It will be 7 oscars if you ask me. Come on people the movie is not all that great. Although 2009 has been a disappointing movie year so it also wouldn’t really surprise me.
Agree with you Drester, i really rally enjoyed the movie but is nothing new under the sun.
