So Who Won All Them Golden Globes?
Must…resist….obvious….pun.
It goes without saying that I in no way watched the Golden Globes last night, instead opting to watch Jack Bauer chase terrorists around New York City, mostly because I think the Globes are a sham and the opinions of 90 foreign journalists no one has ever heard of should in no way get this much attention.
That beings said, when I finally viewed the winners list for the evening, I was shocked to see that I was almost completely in agreement with nearly every selection, and if we see a repeat of this at the Oscars, I would be pleasently surprised. The highlights incllude that James Cameron won the Globes for Best Drama and Director for Avatar, Bullock won for Blind Side, Streep for Julia, Bridges for Crazy Heart, Mo’nique for Precious, Waltz for Basterds.

Could Avatar really win Best Picture this year? Even though it’s about to pass Titanic for the highest grossing movie ever made, I sort of doubt it. I guess it depends how frisky the Academy is feeling this year, and if their in a Return of the King or a Crash mindset this year.

Nice to see Lithgow get recognized for Dexter. I thought he was amazing on the show this season. Terrifying, really.
The ineternational markets love Avatar. Compare the total gross to domestic and you’ll see what I mean. The domestic markets, however, have been much harsher critically on it. Expect Precious, Up In The Air, The Hurt Locker, Crazy Heart, and Invictus to be the top dogs come Oscar day.
Glad to see both Michael C Hall and Lithgow get the oscars, they both put on phenomenal performances this season.

Michael C. Hall and John Lithgow didn’t receive Oscars; they received Golden Globe awards. The Oscars aren’t until March 7, 2010.

Anyways – the Golden Globes solidified the fact I must start watching Dexter. Also, I have never even heard of this Crazy Heart movie (smaller city – we don’t get a lot of the smaller films), was it any good? I love Jeff Bridges, he was awesome in The Big Lebowski! Also, good job for the guy from Inglorious…haven’t seen it yet but everyone just raves about this guy’s performance.

@ Cheryl – I may be mistaken, but I don’t think Crazy Heart has seen full release yet. I think it’s only out in limited markets. Apparently the Dude kicks ass yet again, but this time as a worn-out, drunken country singer.

best director – avatar had great graphics but in no way deserved best director… it should have gone to tarantino..
best comedy/musical show – GLEE??? are you kidding? 30 rock needs to take it every time.

I’m opposed to Avatar winning best picture, simply because it isn’t. Yes, graphics are great and contribute to the overall success of a film, but I expect that a best picture to also have a damn good story. Years (and even months from now) when 3D technology catches up to that of Avatar, the story won’t be strong enough to keep (most) people (I hope) interested. I think Avatar winning best picture over everything elese will amount to Crash winning best picture over Brokeback Mountain.
