This is CGI. ALL OF IT
The Third & The Seventh from Alex Roman on Vimeo.
This video blew my mind in more ways than perhaps anything else I’ve seen this year. Even Avatar. Why? If you watch, you’ll see what I mean.
What we have here is essentially an art project/tech demo of just how close to photorealism CGI is approaching. And if you were convinced by the floating mountains and giant trees of Pandora, this video, which goes on level beyond even that, will absolutely floor you. When you’re watching, keep in mind that absolutely everything you’re seeing is 100% computer generated.
It’s only a matter of time until graphics this excellent reach the big screen, and then someday, video games. If they exist like this in small doses now, it is inevitable that they will undoubtedly be the norm in the coming years.
I know I’ve posted the video above, but to really appreciate it, you need to go here and watch the thing full screen.

This is just amazing and beautiful! Brought a tear to my eye. Yes, best viewed full screen.
Impressive yes, but the real challenge is to animate persons via CGI. So that’s the ultimate limit at the moment.
Its indeed amazing but its not 100% CG photographer, pigeons, timelapsed growing flowers, flying airplane and sky backgrounds are real life.
but this is still amazing especially the tree’s
One of the most beautiful things I’ve seen.
So, is it all CG, or is part of it real as “cor” indicates?
MAGNIFICENT !!! Still is hard to think that this was a one peron job… i mean, just the tree part is overwhealming… I wonder how was done and how much time did the guy (Or guys) invested on the project..?
Suck it, James Cameron.
astonishing (even if quite boring) – reminds 100% GATTACA
Could someone confirm Cor’s comment? I’d like to know if it was a blend of RL and CGI or if it was indeed 100% CGI.
Also, with recreating people in CGI it seems as if animators have hit a point where everything is so lifelike that it looks almost too good to be real.
This is brilliant. I stand by Avatar was just as good but your mind tends to struggle to believe you’re looking at floating mountains and HAWT cat people that don’t exist. Real life objects will always look better for that reason.
I can’t get over what I just saw. That was amazing. There have been moments in recently released CGI movies that I learn over to a friend and say, “That kind of looks real.” It’ll be mind-blowing the first time I see a movie that’s that way the entire way through.
Then when I’m 50 and telling my kids that I remember the first “realistic” CGI motion picture, they’ll call me old and go back to talking to holograms of their best friends on Facebook.
Why is the theme song from Looker running through my head?

the music sounds a ton like gattacca, which suits it really well though.
